About the Taiwan CAP Exam
Taiwan's Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students (國中教育會考, CAP) assesses junior-high learning in Chinese, English, mathematics, social studies, natural sciences, and guided Chinese writing. The 2026 sitting (ROC year 115) was held on 16–17 May. NTNU's Research Center for Psychological and Educational Testing (RCPET) handles assessment work and national examination administration under Ministry of Education oversight, with regional examination committees handling local arrangements. This is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation by OpenExamPrep, with Chinese text retained where it is integral to the skill. It is not an official translation, a simulation of the exam's language or format, or a substitute for Chinese essay writing, written mathematical reasoning, or audio listening practice. The bank provides a selected revision overview, with 20 questions in each subject grouping and writing-rubric practice within Chinese; these are our practice proportions, not official subject weights or full syllabus coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Taiwan's CAP (國中教育會考) and who takes it?
CAP assesses junior-high learning before senior-high education. Current junior-high graduates normally register through their schools; previous graduates and people using approved equivalent-qualification or recognized overseas/mainland routes may also be eligible. Consult the annual regional handbook for the complete documentary requirements and exceptions.
How are CAP examination scores reported and graded?
There is no universal overall pass mark. Subject achievement uses 精熟 (A, A+, A++), 基礎 (B, B+, B++), and 待加強 (C). English combines reading and listening at 80:20, while mathematics combines MCQs and constructed responses at 85:15. Writing receives an overall 1–6 score, or 0 for responses such as blank, wholly off-topic, or prompt-only submissions.
When does the CAP exam take place?
The 2026 CAP (ROC year 115) was held on Saturday 16 May and Sunday 17 May. Check the official annual notice for a future sitting; do not assume a fixed ordinal weekend every year.
How much does it cost to register for Taiwan's CAP?
Current junior-high graduates are exempt, including eligible current graduates with overseas or mainland qualifications. Other individual candidates generally pay NT$500. With the required proof, qualifying middle-low-income candidates pay NT$200; low-income candidates and candidates with a qualifying direct ascendant receiving unemployment benefits are exempt.
What subjects are included in the CAP exam?
The examination tests five academic subjects: Chinese Language, English (including both a reading paper and a listening paper), Mathematics (including multiple-choice and non-choice questions), Social Studies (History, Geography, and Civics), and Natural Sciences (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Earth Science), alongside a mandatory Writing Assessment.
How does OpenExamPrep's practice bank adapt the official CAP exam?
This is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation with Chinese passages and vocabulary retained when essential. Its 100 questions offer a selected revision overview, not an official translation or language/format simulation. Chinese essay writing, showing mathematical working, and listening to English audio require separate practice with appropriate materials.
