1Maxillary palatal surgery requires anesthesia of the posterior hard palate. Which nerve is the principal target for that soft-tissue territory?
A.Anterior superior alveolar nerve
B.Long buccal nerve
C.Greater palatine nerve
D.Mental nerve
Explanation: The greater palatine nerve supplies much of the posterior hard-palate mucosa and gingiva. Maxillary pulpal anesthesia alone does not establish palatal soft-tissue anesthesia.
2Following a very posterior mandibular anesthetic injection, a patient transiently cannot close the ipsilateral eye. Which explanation best fits this complication?
A.Anesthetic reaching facial nerve branches in the parotid region
B.Selective blockade of the mental nerve
C.Injury isolated to the greater palatine nerve
D.Blockade of the hypoglossal nerve alone
Explanation: An overly posterior injection can enter the parotid region and temporarily affect the facial nerve. Facial motor impairment explains the inability to close the eye and requires appropriate assessment and eye protection.
3Alternating light and dark bands in a ground enamel section change with the direction of illumination. What produces Hunter-Schreger bands?
A.Periodic incremental enamel deposition
B.Alternating mineral concentrations along growth lines
C.Successive layers of secondary dentin
D.Different orientations of adjacent groups of enamel rods
Explanation: Hunter-Schreger bands are an optical effect of changes in enamel-rod orientation. They should be distinguished from incremental growth lines such as the striae of Retzius.
4A tooth detects the direction and magnitude of a light biting force. Which periodontal component most directly contributes this sensory information?
A.Pulpal nociceptors alone
B.Periodontal ligament mechanoreceptors
C.Gingival free nerve endings alone
D.Temporomandibular joint receptors alone
Explanation: Periodontal ligament mechanoreceptors contribute sensory feedback about tooth loading. This feedback helps coordinate biting and protective responses.
5A patient reports dry mouth after starting a strongly antimuscarinic medicine. Which physiological action most directly explains the symptom?
A.Reduced parasympathetic stimulation of salivary secretion
B.Increased secretion from every salivary gland
C.Increased enamel permeability alone
D.Direct destruction of all salivary acini
Explanation: Muscarinic signaling is important in parasympathetic stimulation of salivary secretion. Receptor blockade can reduce secretion without requiring structural destruction of the glands.
6For a simplified salivary buffer, pH = pKa + log10(base/acid). If base and acid concentrations are equal, what is the predicted pH?
A.Twice the pKa
B.One unit above the pKa
C.Equal to the pKa
D.One unit below the pKa
Explanation: Equal concentrations give a base-to-acid ratio of one, whose logarithm is zero. The equation therefore reduces to pH = pKa.
7Loss of mineral from enamel is favored when plaque fluid becomes undersaturated with respect to tooth mineral. Which statement best explains why a single universal critical pH is an approximation?
A.Bulk salivary pH and plaque-fluid pH are always identical
B.Mineral saturation also depends on calcium, phosphate, and fluoride conditions
C.Plaque thickness alone sets a fixed dissolution threshold
D.The threshold is determined solely by the number of exposed surfaces
Explanation: The pH at which mineral dissolution is favored depends on the surrounding fluid's composition. Calcium, phosphate, and fluoride affect the saturation balance, so a fixed pH value simplifies a variable system.
8A sterilizer's external indicator tape changes color. Which conclusion is justified by that observation alone?
A.Every item is proved sterile
B.Biological monitoring is no longer useful
C.The instruments were cleaned adequately
D.The tape was exposed to the conditions it is designed to indicate
Explanation: A chemical indicator shows exposure to specified process conditions. It does not by itself prove cleaning quality, penetration throughout every package, or elimination of all microorganisms.
9Which microbial structure chiefly explains why an ordinary antibacterial drug targeting cell-wall peptidoglycan does not directly treat an oral fungal infection?
A.Fungal walls have an outer lipopolysaccharide layer
B.Fungal walls have especially thick peptidoglycan
C.Fungal cell walls lack bacterial peptidoglycan
D.Fungal walls consist mainly of mycolic acids
Explanation: Fungal walls contain components such as glucans and chitin rather than bacterial peptidoglycan. Treatment must target fungal biology rather than assume that all oral infections respond to antibacterial agents.
10A radiolucency at a nonvital tooth apex is provisionally described as a radicular cyst. Which additional finding would establish that it is a cyst rather than a periapical granuloma?
A.Histologic demonstration of an epithelial-lined cavity
B.A circular outline alone
C.Absence of pain alone
D.A single positive percussion response
Explanation: A cyst is defined by an epithelial-lined cavity. Radiographic and clinical features can suggest a diagnosis, but they do not reliably establish this histologic distinction.

STS Diş Hekimliği: Suggested Study Strategy

1Read the current STS guide and your individual YÖK decision.
2Review all sixteen listed fields; do not assume that DUS numerical weights are official STS weights.
3Study Turkish clinical terminology and practise clinical skills separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Must YÖK issue the STS decision before I apply?

The guide allows applicants with a pending equivalence application to enter before referral. A successful result is usable only if YÖK subsequently requires STS.

Does passing complete equivalence automatically?

No. Any prescribed clinical practical requirement and other individual YÖK conditions must also be satisfied.
