1Under Appendix 2 to the Rules of the Road of the Republic of Tajikistan (ПДД РТ), what does warning sign 1.1 tell an approaching driver?
A.A level railway crossing equipped with a barrier (шлагбаум) is ahead
B.A level railway crossing without a barrier is ahead
C.An entrance gate to an enclosed industrial or agricultural area is ahead
D.A fenced construction area with alternating single-lane traffic is ahead
Explanation: Warning sign 1.1 is 'Level railway crossing with a barrier' (Железнодорожный переезд со шлагбаумом). Under the placement note to the warning signs in Appendix 2, it stands 150–300 m before the hazard outside built-up areas and 50–100 m before it inside them. Outside built-up areas sign 1.1 is repeated, with the second sign at least 50 m before the crossing.
2What is the primary legal obligation imposed on a driver approaching sign 2.4 'Give Way' (Уступите дорогу) at an intersection?
A.Come to a mandatory complete stop at the stop line before proceeding
B.Yield right-of-way to vehicles traveling along the intersecting road
C.Sound an audible horn and accelerate through the intersection without yielding
D.Yield right-of-way only to heavy trucks and public route buses
Explanation: Under Appendix 2, priority sign 2.4 'Give Way' requires the driver to yield to vehicles moving on the intersecting road, or to vehicles on the main road when plate 7.13 'Direction of the main road' is fitted. Sign 2.4 does not by itself require a stop when the intersecting road is clear.
3Which of the following vehicles is permitted to enter a road segment posted with sign 3.2 'Movement Prohibited' (Движение запрещено)?
A.All commercial freight vehicles regardless of destination
B.Private passenger cars seeking a short-cut detour during peak hours
C.Route transport vehicles traveling along established municipal transit routes
D.Long-distance intercity buses detouring from a designated national highway
Explanation: The notes to the prohibitory signs in Appendix 2 exempt route vehicles (маршрутные транспортные средства) from signs 3.1–3.3. Sign 3.2 also does not apply to postal and road-maintenance vehicles, or to vehicles serving businesses or residents inside the zone; these must enter and leave at the intersection nearest their destination.
4Under Appendix 2 to ПДД РТ, what does prohibitory sign 3.27 prohibit on the side of the road where it is posted?
A.Parking only; stopping to let passengers in or out remains allowed
B.Overtaking of all mechanical vehicles
C.Entry of vehicles carrying dangerous goods
D.Both stopping and parking of vehicles
Explanation: Sign 3.27 'Stopping prohibited' (Остановка запрещена) bans both stopping and parking. Point 3 defines a stop as deliberately halting for up to 5 minutes, or longer when needed to board passengers or load, so even a brief drop-off breaks the rule. Like signs 3.28–3.30, it applies only to its own side of the road, and it does not bind route vehicles.
5Mandatory sign 4.1.1 'Straight ahead' (Движение прямо) stands at the start of a two-way street section, between intersections. Which manoeuvre is still allowed on that section?
A.Turning right into a courtyard or other adjacent territory
B.Turning left across the road into a filling station
C.Making a U-turn at a mid-block gap
D.Stopping on the left side of the road to unload goods
Explanation: Under Appendix 2, sign 4.1.1 placed at the start of a road section applies up to the nearest intersection. It permits only straight-ahead travel, but the note states that it does not prohibit a right turn into courtyards or other territory adjoining the road.
6A two-lane road has horizontal marking 1.1 between the two directions of traffic. What does point 125 of ПДД РТ say about overtaking on that section?
A.Overtaking is allowed if oncoming traffic is more than 100 metres away
B.Overtaking is prohibited where marking 1.1 is present
C.Overtaking is allowed only past vehicles moving slower than 30 km/h
D.Overtaking is allowed if the driver first sounds the horn
Explanation: Point 125 of ПДД РТ lists the places where overtaking is prohibited. They include sections with road marking 1.1, alongside the zones of signs 3.20 and 3.22, dangerous bends, steep ascents and other sections with limited visibility.
7A driver approaches an intersection where priority sign 2.5 'Движение без остановки запрещено' (No entry without stopping) is installed but no stop line is marked. Where must the driver stop?
A.At least 15 meters before the sign post
B.Directly beside the sign post on the shoulder
C.Before the edge of the intersecting carriageway (край пересекаемой проезжей части)
D.In the middle of the intersection where cross traffic can see the vehicle
Explanation: Under Appendix 2, sign 2.5 forbids moving on without stopping before the stop line or, if there is none, before the edge of the intersecting carriageway. The driver must then yield to vehicles on the intersecting road, or on the main road when plate 7.13 is fitted.
8After passing information sign 5.38 'Жилая зона' (Residential zone), which of the following is prohibited for the driver of a motor vehicle?
A.Entering at 15 km/h to reach a building inside the zone
B.Stopping briefly to let a passenger out
C.Leaving the zone after yielding to traffic on the road
D.Driving through the zone as a short cut to another street
Explanation: Point 195 bans the following for motor-vehicle drivers in residential and pedestrian zones: driving faster than 20 km/h, through (transit) traffic, driving instruction, and parking with the engine running. Point 194 also lets pedestrians walk on the carriageway there with priority. Using the zone as a short cut is transit traffic.
9Under ПДД РТ, what does horizontal marking 1.4 applied along the edge of the carriageway or on the kerb prohibit?
A.Stopping (and therefore parking) along the marked section
B.Parking only; stopping of up to 15 minutes remains allowed
C.Use of the lane by anything other than trolleybuses
D.Driving faster than 20 km/h because the surface is slippery
Explanation: Point 145 of ПДД РТ prohibits stopping in the zone of sign 3.27 'Остановка запрещена' and/or of marking line 1.4. Because parking is banned wherever stopping is banned (point 147), parking is excluded as well. Appendix 2 notes that sign 3.27 may be used together with marking 1.4, whose length then sets the zone of the sign.
10Under Appendix 2 to ПДД РТ, what does prohibitory sign 3.19 mean at an intersection?
A.Both left turns and U-turns are prohibited at the intersection
B.U-turns are prohibited (Разворот запрещен), but turning left remains permitted
C.All vehicles must turn around and return along the previous road
D.Right turns and U-turns are prohibited, but left turns are mandatory
Explanation: In Appendix 2, sign 3.19 is 'U-turn prohibited' (Разворот запрещен): it bans only the U-turn. A left turn is banned by a different sign, 3.18.2 'Left turn prohibited'. Sign 3.19 does not apply to route vehicles.

About the Driving Theory Test (Tajikistan) Exam

In Tajikistan, a driving licence of any category is issued only after the candidate passes a theoretical and a practical examination at a registration-examination unit of the State Automobile Inspectorate (Government Resolution No. 550 of 1 November 2019, as amended in 2020). The theory examination tests knowledge of the Rules of the Road (Қоидаҳои ҳаракат дар роҳ, Government Resolution No. 323 of 29 June 2017) and the other subjects of the driver-training programme, such as safe-driving fundamentals, vehicle faults and first aid. The MIA has not published an item count, time limit or pass mark, and its published fee tariffs conflict. Examinations are conducted in Tajik or Russian. OpenExamPrep provides independent English-language MCQ practice for these topics; it is not an official translation, a simulation of the official test, or a substitute for accredited driving-school instruction.

Exam sponsor: State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan (Бозрасии давлатии автомобилии Вазорати корҳои дохилии Ҷумҳурии Тоҷикистон — БДА ВКД ҶТ / ГАИ МВД РТ). The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Driving Theory Test (Tajikistan): Suggested Study Strategy

1Tajik sign numbers differ from Russian ones: for example, 5.38 is 'Residential zone', 5.33 is 'Stop line', 4.7 is 'Minimum speed limit', and plates form group 7. Learn the Tajik Appendix 2 numbering.
2The general speed limit is 60 km/h in built-up areas and 20 km/h in residential zones (point 132). Outside built-up areas cars may do 90 km/h, or 110 km/h on motorways (point 133).
3A traffic controller's signals override traffic lights, signs and markings (points 47 and 77), and working traffic lights override priority signs (point 48).
4Place the warning triangle at least 15 m from the vehicle in built-up areas and at least 40 m outside them (point 84). At night, dip your headlights at least 300 m before an oncoming vehicle (point 198).
5On a flexible tow rope keep the vehicles 4–6 m apart and do not exceed 50 km/h. Flexible towing is banned in icy conditions, and on mountain roads altogether (points 133, 213, 215 and 247).

Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions are on the Tajikistan driving theory test, and what is the pass mark?

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not published an item count, time limit or pass mark. Government Resolution No. 550 (§48) leaves the examination procedure to the MIA. Ask your driving school or GAI registration-examination unit for the current arrangements. Our 100-question bank is study practice, not a simulation of the official test.

Who administers driving tests in Tajikistan?

Examinations are held at the registration-examination units (регистрационно-экзаменационные подразделения) of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (БДА ВКД ҶТ / ГАИ МВД РТ), at the unit where the candidate applies (Resolution No. 550, §§8 and 31).

In which languages is the driving theory exam held in Tajikistan?

Examinations are conducted in the state language (Tajik) or in Russian, the language of inter-ethnic communication. Under Resolution No. 550 (§102), foreign citizens and others who speak neither language may sit the theory and practical examinations with an interpreter. This OpenExamPrep bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation, not an official translation.

What is the speed limit in residential zones in Tajikistan?

Points 132 and 195 of the Rules of the Road limit vehicles in residential zones (sign 5.38 'Жилая зона') and courtyard territories to 20 km/h. Point 194 also gives pedestrians priority there, and lets them walk on the carriageway as well as the pavements.

What does the driving theory exam cost in Tajikistan?

The current fee could not be confirmed. MIA price lists published online give conflicting figures for the theory examination: 5.30 TJS plus a 50 TJS automated-testing charge on old.vkd.tj, and 100 TJS on mvd.tj. GAI figures reported by Asia-Plus in 2020 gave 70 TJS. Check the amount at your GAI unit before paying.

Is there also a practical driving test?

Yes. Resolution No. 550 (§50) requires a practical examination on a vehicle of the category being sought, after the theory examination, and a licence is issued only after both are passed (§56). This bank covers the theory knowledge only; it cannot replace practical training.

Is OpenExamPrep affiliated with the State Automobile Inspectorate or MIA of Tajikistan?

No. OpenExamPrep is an independent educational resource. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by the State Automobile Inspectorate (БДА), the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, or any Tajik state agency.
