1In the six-step planning process used in TFPA's teaching material, what follows analysis and evaluation of the client's financial position?
A.Implementing recommendations immediately.
B.Monitoring the implemented plan.
C.Developing and presenting recommendations.
D.Establishing the initial engagement.
Explanation: Analysis supports the development and presentation of recommendations. Implementation and subsequent monitoring follow after the recommendations have been considered and agreed.
2Which information belongs in the initial planning engagement agreement?
A.Service scope, each party's responsibilities, compensation and relevant conflicts.
B.An irrevocable guarantee that the target return will be achieved.
C.A prohibition on the client seeking another opinion.
D.An automatic transfer of ownership of client assets to the planner.
Explanation: A clear engagement defines what work is being undertaken and on what terms. It does not create a return guarantee or transfer ownership of the client's wealth.
3A client has THB 600,000 in readily available liquid assets and monthly living expenses of THB 50,000. How many months of expenses do the liquid assets cover?
A.3
B.6
C.8.3
D.12
Explanation: Liquidity coverage is 600,000 / 50,000 = 12 months. Whether this is adequate or excessive depends on income stability, upcoming commitments and other client circumstances.
4A client pays 16% annual interest on a loan and earns 1% on cash savings. Adequate emergency reserves can be retained after repayment, and there is no repayment penalty. What is the strongest financial reason to repay the loan from surplus cash?
A.Repayment guarantees a 16% return on every other investment.
B.The loan's interest cost is lower than the deposit yield.
C.Repayment converts the loan into an income-producing asset.
D.It avoids a high contractual financing cost while giving up a much lower cash yield.
Explanation: The comparison is between the interest cost avoided and the deposit income forgone under the stated terms. Liquidity, penalties and tax effects must still be considered rather than describing repayment as an investment-return guarantee.
5A goal requires THB 1,000,000 in five years. At an assumed constant annual compound return of 7%, what lump sum is needed today, rounded to the nearest baht?
A.THB 850,000
B.THB 712,986
C.THB 650,000
D.THB 500,000
Explanation: Present value is 1,000,000 / 1.07^5 = approximately THB 712,986. An assumed return is a planning input, so actual goal funding remains subject to investment outcomes.
6THB 100,000 is deposited at each year-end for three years into an account earning 5% annually. What is its value immediately after the third deposit?
A.THB 315,250
B.THB 300,000
C.THB 331,012.50
D.THB 330,750
Explanation: The deposits accumulate to 100,000 × 1.05^2 + 100,000 × 1.05 + 100,000 = THB 315,250. The last deposit earns no interest before the stated valuation time.
7What effective annual rate corresponds to a nominal annual rate of 12% compounded quarterly?
A.12.00%
B.12.36%
C.12.68%
D.12.55%
Explanation: The quarterly rate is 0.12 / 4 = 0.03. Effective annual growth is 1.03^4 − 1 = approximately 12.55%.
8For a personal planning balance sheet, which value is most relevant for a client's home?
A.Its purchase price regardless of subsequent changes.
B.Zero because it is not rented out.
C.A reasonable estimate of current market value.
D.The original purchase price plus all mortgage payments ever made.
Explanation: A personal balance sheet estimates current assets and liabilities. A home has economic value even when used personally, although that value may be illiquid and subject to selling costs.
9Which is qualitative client information rather than a numerical financial record?
A.The current mortgage balance.
B.The client's priorities about supporting family and accepting uncertainty.
C.Last year's tax payment.
D.The number of units held in a mutual fund.
Explanation: Values, priorities and attitudes provide qualitative context for planning. They complement quantitative records such as balances, taxes and holdings.
10Which asset is most clearly held for investment rather than personal use?
A.The client's main residence.
B.A family car used for commuting.
C.Furniture used in the family home.
D.A portfolio of income-producing bonds and equity funds.
Explanation: Investment assets are held primarily for income or capital growth. Personal-use assets serve living needs, even though some may also appreciate.

About the SEC Investment Planner (IP) Exam

Independent practice by OpenExamPrep for the SEC Investment Planner assessed qualification route (ผู้วางแผนการลงทุน / IP). This is an English-language MCQ study adaptation, not an official translation or simulation of the official language environment. TFPA CFP Papers 1 and 2 are in Thai; IC component exams have Thai and English routes. These questions focus on the planning and revised investment-paper topics and do not replace mandatory training, official Thai preparation or the separate IC components. IP work concerns individualized investment planning; approval does not automatically grant authority in every financial, insurance or legal service.

Exam sponsor: SEC Thailand approves IPs; TFPA assesses CFP Papers 1/2; SET framework and approved testing centers assess IC components. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Assessment

SET's standard degree-based route combines IC P1/P2/P3 with TFPA CFP Papers 1 and 2. Paper 1 is 85 four-option MCQs in 180 minutes; Paper 2 is 120 in 270 minutes revised or 85 in 180 minutes legacy. Individual, item-set and case-study MCQs are included. Relevant training or an approved exemption is normally required before TFPA assessment. The standard IP Paper 1/2 route does not add full-CFP unit 6 financial-plan work, Paper 4 written assessment or an oral examination; alternative qualification routes must be checked separately.

SEC Investment Planner (IP): Suggested Study Strategy

1Prepare in Thai for the TFPA papers and retain the exact local legal and financial terminology.
2Use this bank for the planning and revised Paper 2 topics, then prepare separately for the IC component assessments.
3State return, tax and cash-flow assumptions before calculating; verify current rules before using them in a real recommendation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Must I complete the entire CFP designation for the standard IP route?

SET lists CFP Papers 1 and 2 alongside a bachelor's degree and IC P1/P2/P3. The SEC publishes additional approval alternatives. Full-CFP Paper 4 and unit 6 financial-plan requirements must not be automatically added to the standard IP route.

Which Paper 2 structure applies in 2026?

TFPA's 2026 schedule lists both the legacy 85-item, 180-minute route and revised 120-item, 270-minute route, on different sittings. Confirm the applicable curriculum before booking. Our topic selection uses the revised outline.

Are all route components in English?

No. TFPA's handbook specifies Thai for its examinations, including Papers 1 and 2. SET publishes English as well as Thai IC component routes. This bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation, not an official translation.

What training is involved?

TFPA normally requires relevant training or an approved exemption. Unit 1 is 24 hours; revised unit 2 is 48 hours and legacy unit 2 is 24 hours. Transcript review and challenge routes have conditions. Self-study MCQs do not replace required training.

Do all results simply expire after two years?

No single blanket period should be applied. The SEC table has conditional remarks for planning results and training, while TFPA introduced separate result-age rules from 2026 with transitional treatment. Check the specific approval and examination route.
