Sample OIC Non-Life Insurance Agent Practice Questions

Try these sample questions to review concepts for the OIC Non-Life Insurance Agent exam. Each question includes a detailed explanation. Start the interactive quiz above for the full 40+ question experience with AI tutoring.

1A shop owner believes a basic property policy covers every cause of damage. Which response best supports an informed purchase?
A.Confirm the belief because the policy title says property insurance
B.Explain the insured perils, important exclusions, limits, and available extensions
C.Wait until a claim occurs to explain any excluded peril
D.Discuss exclusions only if the customer has never bought insurance before
Explanation: An agent should explain the actual protection and its significant limitations before the customer decides. A broad product label does not mean every peril is covered.
2A motor customer pays a cash premium to an agent acting for the insurer. Which documentation best protects an accurate payment record?
A.An insurer-authorized premium receipt identifying the payment
B.Only a quotation showing the premium originally proposed
C.Only a copy of the vehicle registration
D.Only the agent's monthly sales summary
Explanation: The customer needs authorized evidence of the payment received for the insurer. A quotation, registration document, or sales summary has a different purpose and does not establish that payment was collected.
3A commercial agent proposes cancelling an existing fire policy mid-term to earn a fresh commission. The replacement adds no useful cover, but the agent hides the cancellation cost. What is the central ethical defect?
A.Any mid-term policy change is prohibited even when beneficial
B.Commission always makes an insurance recommendation invalid
C.The client is being induced into a disadvantageous replacement through incomplete information
D.A policy comparison is unnecessary when both insurers are licensed
Explanation: The concealed cost and lack of client benefit make this a harmful replacement recommendation. A legitimate change requires a fair comparison of protection, timing, costs, and the customer's needs.
4An agent holds a client's confidential factory survey, including stock values and security weaknesses. A different business asks for a copy to benchmark its risks. What is the best response?
A.Provide it because both businesses operate in the same industry
B.Provide it after the client's policy expires
C.Provide it if the requesting business promises not to name the client
D.Decline disclosure without proper authorization and use suitably anonymized general guidance instead
Explanation: The agent should protect confidential information obtained through the client relationship. An industry connection or policy expiry does not authorize disclosure of identifiable commercial details.
5While preparing a warehouse proposal, an agent learns that the building stores flammable solvents omitted from the draft. What should the agent do?
A.Leave the draft unchanged if no fire has previously occurred
B.Help the applicant disclose the storage accurately to underwriting
C.Keep the information only in the agency's private file
D.Wait until renewal because the proposal has already been drafted
Explanation: The storage can affect acceptance and pricing, so it should be disclosed accurately for underwriting consideration. A clean claims history does not make a known risk fact irrelevant.
6After a warehouse fire, which action best fulfills the selling agent's servicing role?
A.Help report the loss and explain the insurer's claim-document requirements without demanding an extra personal fee
B.Confirm the full sum insured will be paid before a loss assessment
C.Delay notification until the customer agrees to renew
D.Ask the customer to increase the sum insured retroactively before reporting the loss
Explanation: The agent should provide prompt, honest assistance with notification and documentation. The claim decision belongs to the insurer, and policy changes must not be used to misrepresent the cover in force when the fire occurred.
7A customer asks why one motor quotation is cheaper than another. What is the most useful and ethical comparison?
A.Assume the cheaper insurer is less solvent
B.Assume equal product names mean identical cover
C.Compare verified limits, exclusions, deductibles, repair arrangements, and price
D.Promise that the more expensive policy matches every competitor feature
Explanation: A factual comparison helps the customer understand what the premium buys. Unsupported allegations about competitors or promises beyond the contract are misleading.
8A client needs sea-transit cover, but the agent's insurer offers only inland-transit cover for that risk. Which response respects the agent's authority?
A.Change the inland wording personally and issue it as marine cover
B.Collect the premium and guarantee that underwriting will approve later
C.Treat the client's request as sufficient authority to bind the insurer
D.Explain the limitation and obtain an authorized solution before representing that sea-transit cover exists
Explanation: An agent must accurately describe the insurer's available cover and stay within granted authority. Neither client urgency nor premium collection creates authority to invent policy terms.
9What is the purpose of indemnity in an ordinary property-insurance claim, subject to the policy's limits and terms?
A.To compensate the insured's covered financial loss without creating a profit from the loss
B.To pay the entire policy limit whenever any insured damage occurs
C.To return every premium paid whenever a claim arises
D.To replace actual loss assessment with the property's original purchase price in every case
Explanation: Indemnity seeks to compensate the covered financial loss. Limits, deductibles, valuation terms, and other conditions determine the actual payment, so indemnity does not promise full replacement cost in every contract.
10Why can a warehouse operator have an insurable interest in customers' goods held in its custody?
A.Possession automatically transfers full legal ownership to the operator
B.Every commercial relationship creates unlimited interest in all customers' assets
C.The operator may face financial liability for damage to goods entrusted to it
D.An operator can insure only goods it has bought outright
Explanation: Insurable interest can arise from potential financial loss or legal responsibility, rather than ownership alone. The actual policy must still specify the interest, subject matter, and extent of cover.

Are the subject percentages question counts or score weights?

They are score weights. Ethics has 20 questions worth 20 marks; general non-life knowledge has 20 questions worth 40 marks; the Civil Code and Non-Life Insurance Act each have 10 questions worth 20 marks. Passing requires 14/20 ethics marks and 48/80 combined academic marks in the same sitting.

Is this an official English examination translation?

No. OpenExamPrep provides an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation. Official materials reviewed are in Thai, but those public notices do not explicitly list permitted assessment languages. Confirm your sitting's language and delivery arrangements with the organizer.

Does the examination replace licensing training?

No. Licensing also requires prescribed training, legal majority, domicile in Thailand, company appointment, absence of statutory disqualifications, and an approved application. Prescribed insurance education may provide an alternative route to the knowledge-test requirement.

Why is the listed TGIA cost 300 THB?

The published application form separates a 200 THB examination fee from a 100 THB administration charge, for a 300 THB total per sitting. Training and the license application have separate costs.
