1A provincial government procurement office purchases office computers originally listed at 25,000 THB each. The supplier grants an institutional volume discount of 15%, plus an additional 2% rebate on the discounted price for prompt payment within 15 days. What is the final price paid per computer?
A.20,825 THB
B.21,250 THB
C.20,750 THB
D.21,675 THB
Explanation: Applying the 15% institutional discount first reduces the price to 85% of 25,000 THB: 25,000 * 0.85 = 21,250 THB. Applying the additional 2% prompt-payment rebate on this discounted amount subtracts 21,250 * 0.02 = 425 THB, resulting in a final price of 21,250 - 425 = 20,825 THB.
2Officer A can process a batch of 120 license applications alone in 6 hours, while Officer B can process the same batch alone in 4 hours. Officer C can process the batch alone in 12 hours. If all three officers work together simultaneously at their respective constant rates, how many hours will it take them to process the entire batch of 120 applications?
A.2 hours
B.2.4 hours
C.4 hours
D.1.5 hours
Explanation: Determine each worker's hourly rate of completing the batch: Officer A completes 1/6 of the batch per hour, Officer B completes 1/4 (or 3/12) per hour, and Officer C completes 1/12 per hour. Their combined hourly rate is 1/6 + 1/4 + 1/12 = 2/12 + 3/12 + 1/12 = 6/12 = 1/2 of the batch per hour. Therefore, the time required to complete 1 full batch together is 1 / (1/2) = 2 hours.
3A provincial agricultural development budget of 1,800,000 THB is allocated among three districts X, Y, and Z in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 4 respectively. By how much does the budget allocated to District Z exceed the budget allocated to District X?
A.400,000 THB
B.200,000 THB
C.600,000 THB
D.300,000 THB
Explanation: The total number of ratio parts is 2 + 3 + 4 = 9 parts. Each part is worth 1,800,000 / 9 = 200,000 THB. District X receives 2 parts (400,000 THB) and District Z receives 4 parts (800,000 THB). The difference between District Z and District X is 800,000 - 400,000 = 400,000 THB (or directly (4 - 2) * 200,000 = 400,000 THB).
4An official inspection car departs District Office A towards Provincial Hall B at a constant speed of 60 km/h. Forty minutes later, a courier van leaves District Office A along the exact same route traveling at a constant speed of 90 km/h. How many kilometers from District Office A will the courier van overtake the inspection car?
A.120 km
B.100 km
C.150 km
D.90 km
Explanation: Forty minutes equals 40/60 = 2/3 of an hour. In that time, the inspection car travels 60 * (2/3) = 40 km ahead. The relative speed at which the courier closes the gap is 90 - 60 = 30 km/h. The time needed to close the 40 km gap is 40 / 30 = 4/3 hours (80 minutes). In 4/3 hours, the courier van travels 90 * (4/3) = 120 km from District Office A.
5A welfare shop purchases jackets at 400 THB each, marks up the cost by 30%, and gives members a 10% discount off the marked price. Before any other expenses, what is the profit on each jacket sold to a member?
A.68 THB
B.80 THB
C.72 THB
D.60 THB
Explanation: The marked price is 400 × 1.30 = 520 THB, and the discount is 520 × 0.10 = 52 THB. The member therefore pays 468 THB. Before other expenses, profit is selling price minus purchase cost: 468 − 400 = 68 THB.
6A senior officer is currently twice as old as a junior officer. In 20 years, the senior officer will be one and a half times as old as the junior officer will be then. How old is the junior officer now?
A.20 years old
B.25 years old
C.30 years old
D.15 years old
Explanation: Let J be the junior officer's current age, so the senior officer is 2J. The future ages give 2J + 20 = 1.5(J + 20), hence 0.5J = 10 and J = 20. Their current ages are 20 and 40; their future ages are 40 and 60, which have the required ratio.
7A municipal credit cooperative issues a soft loan of 50,000 THB to an officer at a simple annual interest rate of 6%. If the principal and interest are paid in a single lump sum after 2 years and 6 months, what is the total interest accrued over the period?
A.7,500 THB
B.6,000 THB
C.8,000 THB
D.9,000 THB
Explanation: Simple interest is calculated using I = P * r * t, where P = 50,000 THB, annual rate r = 0.06, and time t = 2.5 years (2 years and 6 months). Therefore, I = 50,000 * 0.06 * 2.5 = 3,000 * 2.5 = 7,500 THB.
8In a hypothetical training assessment, four tasks have weights of 20%, 30%, 25%, and 25%. A trainee scores 70 on the first task and 80 on the second. The fourth-task score is 10 points higher than the third-task score. If the weighted total is 77.5, what is the third-task score?
A.74
B.75
C.84
D.37
Explanation: Let the third score be x, making the fourth x + 10. Then 70 × 0.20 + 80 × 0.30 + 0.25x + 0.25(x + 10) = 77.5, so 40.5 + 0.5x = 77.5 and x = 74. The fourth score is 84, and the weighted check is 14 + 24 + 18.5 + 21 = 77.5; these are hypothetical training weights.
9A box contains 5 blue dossiers and 5 non-blue dossiers. Two are selected uniformly at random without replacement. Given that at least one selected dossier is blue, what is the probability that both are blue?
A.2/7
B.2/9
C.1/4
D.1/2
Explanation: There are C(10, 2) = 45 equally likely pairs, including C(5, 2) = 10 all-blue and 10 all-non-blue pairs. The condition excludes the 10 all-non-blue pairs, leaving 35 possible pairs. Of these, 10 are all blue, so the conditional probability is 10/35 = 2/7.
10A rectangular public park has a perimeter of 280 meters. If its length is 40 meters longer than its width, what is the total surface area of the park in square meters?
A.4,500 m²
B.4,800 m²
C.4,200 m²
D.5,000 m²
Explanation: Let W be the width, so length L = W + 40. Perimeter is 2(L + W) = 2(W + 40 + W) = 2(2W + 40) = 4W + 80 = 280. Solving gives 4W = 200, so W = 50 meters and L = 50 + 40 = 90 meters. The area is L * W = 90 * 50 = 4,500 m².

OCSC Part A: Suggested Study Strategy

1Practise Thai reading, summarising, and interpretation directly; English explanations support study but do not reproduce the official language environment.
2For quantitative questions, track the base of every percentage, distinguish successive changes from added rates, and check units and sample spaces.
3For data sufficiency, ask whether a statement determines a unique answer before doing unnecessary calculations.
4Distinguish central, provincial, and local administration, and distinguish delegation of a power from temporarily acting in an office.
5Check the conditions and exceptions in administrative procedure and official-duty liability; do not memorise a deadline or liability rule without its scope.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an official English version of the OCSC exam?

No. This is independent practice by OpenExamPrep: an English-language MCQ study adaptation, not an official translation or format simulation. The official outline tests Thai verbal skills and includes a separate English subject; an official all-English sitting has not been verified. Practise the required Thai language skills as well as these explanations.

Does passing Part A guarantee a civil service appointment?

No. The certificate may be used in relevant agency recruitment, but candidates still need the vacancy's educational and other qualifications and must complete its selection stages. OCSC distinguishes the general Part A assessment from agency-specific Part B and Part C assessments, and also describes special selection routes.

What are the 2026 fees?

The Paper & Pencil notice specifies a 250 THB exam fee plus bank and internet service charges up to 30 THB, for up to 280 THB total. The e-Exam notice specifies 300 THB plus service charges up to 30 THB, for up to 330 THB total. Check the notice for the delivery mode and sitting you select.

What are the pass requirements?

Analytical Thinking requires at least 60% below Bachelor's and at Bachelor's level, or 65% at Master's level. English requires at least 50%, and Knowledge and Characteristics of Being a Good Civil Servant requires at least 60%. The notices require all three subject thresholds; do not rely on an unverified English-test exemption.

Does the passing certificate expire?

The 2026 notices say it continues to be usable unless OCSC determines otherwise. A higher qualification-level pass can be used at lower levels, subject to the recruiting agency's educational requirements. This is not a promise that the rules can never change.
