1What is the value of 4,528 + 3,795?
A.8,213
B.8,323
C.8,313
D.7,323
Explanation: Adding column by column: 8 + 5 = 13 (write 3, carry 1); 2 + 9 + 1 = 12 (write 2, carry 1); 5 + 7 + 1 = 13 (write 3, carry 1); 4 + 3 + 1 = 8. The total is 8,323.
2Subtract 2,684 from 7,000.
A.4,316
B.5,316
C.4,326
D.4,416
Explanation: Regroup across the zeros before subtracting: 7,000 - 2,684 = 4,316. Check by adding the difference back: 4,316 + 2,684 = 7,000.
3Find the product of 48 and 25.
A.1,100
B.1,200
C.1,250
D.1,150
Explanation: Since 25 is one quarter of 100, 48 * 25 = 4,800/4 = 1,200. Alternatively, split 25 into 20 and 5, giving 960 + 240 = 1,200.
4What is the result when 1,728 is divided by 12?
A.134
B.142
C.144
D.154
Explanation: 1,728 / 12: 12 goes into 17 once with remainder 5; 12 goes into 52 four times (48) with remainder 4; 12 goes into 48 four times exactly. The quotient is 144.
5A tank is three quarters full. One third of the water currently in the tank is used. What fraction of the tank's total capacity remains filled?
A.1/2
B.5/12
C.1/4
D.2/3
Explanation: The amount used is one third of three quarters: (1/3) * (3/4) = 1/4 of the tank's capacity. Subtracting this from 3/4 leaves 1/2 of the total capacity filled.
6Calculate: 3/5 + 1/4.
A.4/9
B.17/20
C.13/20
D.7/10
Explanation: The lowest common denominator of 5 and 4 is 20. Convert both fractions: 3/5 = 12/20 and 1/4 = 5/20. Adding them yields 12/20 + 5/20 = 17/20.
7Subtract 0.475 from 1.2.
A.0.725
B.0.735
C.0.625
D.0.825
Explanation: Write 1.2 as 1.200 to match the decimal places before subtracting. Regrouping gives 1.200 - 0.475 = 0.725; adding 0.475 back checks the result.
8Convert 3/8 into a decimal.
A.0.325
B.0.375
C.0.380
D.0.425
Explanation: Multiply the numerator and denominator by 125: 3/8 = 375/1,000. A fraction with denominator 1,000 is written with three decimal places, so the decimal is 0.375.
9A school has 240 pupils. On Monday, 15% are absent. Of those present, one quarter attend a music lesson. How many attend the music lesson?
A.9
B.51
C.60
D.204
Explanation: The absent pupils number 15% of 240 = 36, leaving 240 - 36 = 204 present. A quarter of the present pupils is 204 / 4 = 51.
10Find the Least Common Multiple (LCM) of 12, 18, and 24.
A.36
B.48
C.72
D.144
Explanation: Prime factorizations: 12 = 2^2 * 3; 18 = 2 * 3^2; 24 = 2^3 * 3. The LCM takes the highest power of each prime factor: 2^3 * 3^2 = 8 * 9 = 72.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the NPSE entirely multiple choice?

No. MBSSE's English preparation booklet includes an English composition and letter-writing paper. Our English-language MCQs are independent study adaptations, not official papers or a substitute for writing practice.

Does a raw score of 50% guarantee placement?

Do not infer placement from a raw percentage. MBSSE reports aggregate scores and sets the placement cutoff. Confirm the current threshold with MBSSE or your school.

Are these official topic weights?

No. The percentages describe our practice inventory. No current official percentage blueprint across the five score areas was verified.
