1Synonyms (synonymer): which word is closest in meaning to the formal Swedish verb 'anmoda'?
A.Förbjuda (to forbid)
B.Bevilja (to grant)
C.Uppmana (to urge)
D.Ifrågasätta (to question)
Explanation: 'Anmoda' is a formal verb meaning to request or call on someone to do something, so 'uppmana' (to urge, to call on) is the closest synonym. It is typical of official letters, for example 'Ni anmodas att inkomma med...'.
2Antonyms (motsatsord): which word is the opposite of the Swedish adjective 'prekär'?
A.Bekymmersam (worrying)
B.Stabil (stable)
C.Osäker (uncertain)
D.Komplicerad (complicated)
Explanation: 'Prekär' describes a delicate, risky or unstable situation, as in 'en prekär ekonomisk situation'. The opposite is 'stabil' (stable, secure).
3Complete the verbal analogy: 'lagöverträdelse' is to 'påföljd' as 'ansökan' is to:
A.Arkiv (archive)
B.Handläggare (case officer)
C.Beslut (decision)
D.Remiss (referral for comment)
Explanation: An offence (lagöverträdelse) leads to a legal consequence (påföljd); in the same way, an application (ansökan) ends in a decision (beslut). Both pairs link an event with the formal outcome it produces.
4Synonyms (synonymer): which word is closest in meaning to 'vederhäftig', as in 'en vederhäftig källa'?
A.Tveksam (doubtful)
B.Välvillig (well-meaning)
C.Utförlig (detailed)
D.Tillförlitlig (reliable)
Explanation: 'Vederhäftig' describes a person, statement or source that is reliable and well-founded. 'Tillförlitlig' (reliable, trustworthy) is the closest synonym.
5Antonyms (motsatsord): which word is the opposite of 'explicit', as in 'en explicit instruktion'?
A.Underförstådd (implied)
B.Uttryckligen angiven (expressly stated)
C.Bindande (binding)
D.Omedelbar (immediate)
Explanation: 'Explicit' means stated openly and clearly. Its opposite is 'underförstådd' (implied, understood without being said), the Swedish equivalent of 'implicit'.
6Synonyms (synonymer): which word is closest in meaning to 'förevändning'?
A.Föraning (premonition)
B.Svepskäl (pretext)
C.Förändring (change)
D.Erkännande (admission)
Explanation: A 'förevändning' is a reason given to hide the real motive, in other words a pretext. 'Svepskäl' means the same thing.
7Complete the verbal analogy: 'hypotes' is to 'verifiering' as 'misstanke' is to:
A.Fällande dom (conviction)
B.Straff (punishment)
C.Utredning (investigation)
D.Häktning (remand in custody)
Explanation: A hypothesis is tested through verification; a suspicion is tested through an investigation (utredning). Both pairs link an unproven assumption with the process that tests it.
8A report describes an incident as 'bagatellartad'. Which word is closest in meaning?
A.Brådskande (urgent)
B.Grovt oaktsam (grossly negligent)
C.Svårlöst (hard to resolve)
D.Obetydlig (insignificant)
Explanation: 'Bagatellartad' means trivial or of little importance; it comes from 'bagatell', a trifle. 'Obetydlig' (insignificant) is the closest meaning.
9Antonyms (motsatsord): which word is the opposite of 'partisk'?
A.Opartisk (impartial)
B.Fientlig (hostile)
C.Okunnig (ignorant)
D.Engagerad (committed)
Explanation: 'Partisk' means biased or taking sides, so its direct opposite is 'opartisk' (impartial). Impartiality is also a constitutional duty: Regeringsformen 1 kap. 9 § requires courts and administrative authorities, including the police, to act with objectivity and impartiality (saklighet och opartiskhet).
10Read the sentence: 'Polisen ska vid allvarliga olyckor bistå räddningsledaren med att upprätta avspärrningar och leda om trafiken.' What does 'bistå' mean here?
A.Att ta över ledningen (to take command)
B.Att hjälpa till (to assist)
C.Att överklaga (to appeal)
D.Att dokumentera (to document)
Explanation: 'Bistå' means to assist or support someone else. In the sentence, the police help the rescue commander (räddningsledaren), who keeps command of the rescue operation.

About the Sweden Police Programme Admission Tests (Polisprov) Exam

The prövning till polisutbildningen is the admission assessment for Sweden's police programme. Plikt- och prövningsverket runs the application and tests on behalf of Polismyndigheten, which sets the requirements: a Swedish-language computerised cognitive test (I-provet, pass level 4 of 9) and personality test, medical examinations, a cycle fitness test and an ISOKAI strength test, a psychologist interview, a drug test, and a security and suitability interview with a register check. OpenExamPrep offers independent practice on these topics as an English-language MCQ study adaptation. It is not an official translation or a simulation of the Swedish tests, and it cannot replace the physical tests, medical checks or interviews.

Exam sponsor: Polismyndigheten (sets the requirements and decides on admission) with Totalförsvarets plikt- och prövningsverk (runs the application and prövning). The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Applicants who pass the medical and psychological parts have a security and suitability interview with police officers plus a register check, and finish with a closing talk (avslutande samtal).

Sweden Police Programme Admission Tests (Polisprov): Suggested Study Strategy

1Practise Swedish synonyms and antonyms regularly, especially formal and administrative words; Pliktverket's 'Testa I-provet' page has free example items.
2Train number series, paper folding and dice or cube-net problems until you can spot the rule quickly.
3Before the psychologist interview, think through why you want to become a police officer and what the police mission involves, and prepare honest examples from your own life.
4Answer the personality test as you actually are, not as you think an ideal applicant would answer.
5Prepare for the strength test with deadlift technique and full-body training, and for the cycle test with interval training or spinning against resistance.
6Get your swimming certificate on Polisen's form 711.5 early, and check the medical requirements and certificate rules on Polisen's antagningskrav page before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the prövning till polisutbildningen?

It is the admission assessment for Sweden's police programme. Plikt- och prövningsverket administers the application and carries out the medical and psychological prövning on behalf of Polismyndigheten, which sets the requirements and decides on admission. The police education is five terms: four terms of full-time study on the police programme and a six-month paid aspirant term.

What happens during the prövning?

You start with a theoretical test and a personality test in a computer room, and the theory result decides whether you continue. Then follow medical examinations (vision, hearing, ECG, BMI and a doctor's assessment), a cycle fitness test, the ISOKAI strength test, a psychologist interview and a drug test. If you pass the medical and psychological parts, police officers hold a security and suitability interview, combined with a register check.

What score do I need on I-provet?

Since 5 May 2025, police applicants take I-prov 2025 instead of the older UNIQ test. Polismyndigheten has set the pass level at 4 on the test's nine-point scale, chosen to match the earlier UNIQ requirement of 3 as closely as possible. I-provet measures word understanding, logical thinking and spatial ability, and Pliktverket publishes practice items on its website.

What are the physical requirements?

The ISOKAI strength test, which resembles a deadlift against resistance up to chin height, requires capacity 6 for men and 3 for women on a nine-point scale; men need 5 and women 2 to continue the prövning. The cycle test requires average fitness, the same for everyone. You must also bring a swimming certificate on Polisen's form covering 150 m breaststroke, 25 m backstroke without arm strokes and a doll rescue from 1.5 m depth.

What are the spärrtider and how long are results valid?

A failed begåvningstest, personality test or psychologist interview gives a 12-month spärrtid, the physical tests 3 months, a positive drug test or failed register check 24 months, and the security interview 12 or 24 months. Passed moments are valid for 24 months, counted from the date of the passed begåvningstest, and your programme start must fall within that period.

Does it cost anything?

Polisen and Pliktverket do not list an application or test fee. You pay for your own swimming certificate, meals during the prövning and any required medical certificates. Applicants who live outside the Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö areas can book free travel and accommodation through Pliktverket's Min sida.

How does this practice bank relate to the official prövning?

It is independent practice by OpenExamPrep, written as an English-language MCQ study adaptation. The official tests and interviews are in Swedish and are not multiple-choice question papers, so this bank is not an official translation or format simulation, and it cannot replace physical training, medical checks or the psychologist and security interviews. Swedish words are kept where vocabulary is the skill being practised.
