1A craft carpentry workshop sells a custom oak table with a net price of 2,400 PLN. If the standard Polish Value Added Tax (VAT) rate of 23% applies, what is the gross selling price charged to the customer?
A.2,852 PLN
B.2,760 PLN
C.2,952 PLN
D.3,024 PLN
Explanation: To calculate the gross price with a 23% VAT rate, multiply the net price by 1.23 (or calculate 23% of 2,400 PLN, which is 552 PLN, and add it to 2,400 PLN). 2,400 PLN × 1.23 = 2,952 PLN.
2A workshop invoice for electrical installation work in a dwelling covered by the social housing programme (budownictwo objęte społecznym programem mieszkaniowym), which qualifies for Poland's reduced 8% VAT rate, shows a gross total of 1,620 PLN. What is the net value of the service before tax?
A.1,500.00 PLN
B.1,490.40 PLN
C.1,749.60 PLN
D.1,317.07 PLN
Explanation: To derive the net value from a gross amount that includes 8% VAT, divide the gross amount by 1.08: 1,620 PLN / 1.08 = 1,500 PLN. The VAT included in the price is 120 PLN.
3A locksmith purchases steel profiles with a catalogue list price of 1,200 PLN net. The wholesaler grants a trade discount of 15%. If an early-payment discount (skonto) of 2% is subsequently applied to the discounted net sum, what final net price does the locksmith pay?
A.1,020.00 PLN
B.996.00 PLN
C.1,176.00 PLN
D.999.60 PLN
Explanation: The 15% trade discount reduces the price to 1,200 PLN × 0.85 = 1,020 PLN. The 2% skonto is then applied to that discounted amount: 1,020 PLN × 0.98 = 999.60 PLN.
4In trade price calculation (kalkulacja cenowa), how does markup on cost (narzut na koszt własny) differ from profit margin on the sales price (marża od ceny sprzedaży)?
A.Markup expresses profit as a percentage of the selling price, whereas margin expresses profit as a percentage of the unit cost
B.Markup expresses profit as a percentage of the unit cost, whereas margin expresses profit as a percentage of the selling price
C.Markup and margin are two names for the same ratio and always give the same percentage
D.Markup is applied only to labor costs, whereas margin is applied only to material costs
Explanation: Markup (narzut) relates the profit amount to the cost base (profit / cost × 100%), whereas profit margin (marża) relates the profit to the selling price (profit / selling price × 100%). Because the selling price is larger than the cost, the markup percentage is always higher than the margin percentage for the same positive profit.
5A metalworking shop produces a gate with a direct manufacturing cost of 3,000 PLN. The business applies a 25% markup on cost to determine the net selling price. What is the resulting profit margin on the selling price?
A.25%
B.80%
C.20%
D.30%
Explanation: A 25% markup on 3,000 PLN gives a profit of 750 PLN and a selling price of 3,750 PLN. The margin is profit divided by selling price: 750 PLN / 3,750 PLN = 0.20, or 20%.
6An upholstery craft worker requires 4.5 linear meters of fabric priced at 80 PLN per meter net, fasteners costing 40 PLN net, and 6 hours of labor at a rate of 50 PLN per hour. What is the total direct cost of the job?
A.660 PLN
B.740 PLN
C.400 PLN
D.700 PLN
Explanation: Fabric: 4.5 m × 80 PLN = 360 PLN. Fasteners: 40 PLN. Direct labor: 6 hours × 50 PLN = 300 PLN. Total direct cost = 360 + 40 + 300 = 700 PLN.
7Which items are classified as direct material costs (materiały bezpośrednie) in a craft workshop's cost accounting?
A.Materials and parts built into the product and traceable to a specific order
B.Cleaning supplies and office paper used in the workshop office
C.Electricity and water consumed by the whole workshop building each month
D.Fuel used by the owner's vehicle for visits to customers
Explanation: Direct materials (materiały bezpośrednie) are materials and components incorporated into the product whose consumption can be traced to a specific product or order, such as timber for furniture or flour for bread. Cleaning supplies, utilities and travel are indirect costs (koszty pośrednie) shared across many jobs.
8A tailor cuts 12 uniforms from wool fabric. The net material consumed is 36 square meters, but because of cutting waste (naddatek na odpady) an extra 10% of fabric must be purchased on top of the net requirement. If fabric costs 60 PLN per square meter, what is the total fabric purchasing cost?
A.2,160 PLN
B.2,376 PLN
C.2,400 PLN
D.216 PLN
Explanation: Fabric to buy including the allowance: 36 m² × 1.10 = 39.6 m². Total cost = 39.6 m² × 60 PLN/m² = 2,376 PLN.
9What is the standard VAT rate in Poland that applies to the sale of most goods and craft repair services not covered by a reduced rate or exemption?
A.8%
B.22%
C.5%
D.23%
Explanation: The standard VAT rate under the Polish VAT Act (ustawa o podatku od towarów i usług) is 23%. Reduced rates of 8% and 5% apply only to goods and services specifically listed in the Act, such as certain foods, books and housing construction within the social housing programme.
10A shoemaker's monthly fixed workshop overheads (rent, heating, equipment lease) total 4,000 PLN. In a month in which 200 labor hours are billed across repair jobs, what overhead cost should be allocated to each billable hour?
A.25 PLN/hour
B.0.05 PLN/hour
C.20 PLN/hour
D.30 PLN/hour
Explanation: The overhead rate per direct labor hour is total overheads divided by billable hours: 4,000 PLN / 200 hours = 20 PLN per hour.
