Key Facts: Examen de Conocimientos Edomex Exam

The Estado de México knowledge exam is required only for new licenses and practice permits, not renewals (Secretaría de Movilidad, 2026).

The Secretaría de Movilidad's official study guide for the Edomex knowledge exam contains 54 questions with answers.

Edomex private licenses can be issued for one, two, three or four years (Reglamento de Tránsito, Article 42).

An Edomex automovilista license costs $777 MXN for one year and $1,848 MXN for four years in 2026.

Drivers in the Estado de México may reverse up to 20 meters, never at intersections (Article 87).

Since November 2025, Edomex motorcyclists may not ride with more than 0.1 mg/L of breath alcohol (Article 106 bis).

Driving over the alcohol limit in the Estado de México brings a 12–36-hour non-commutable arrest.

First-time license applicants in the Estado de México must pass the Secretaría de Movilidad's knowledge exam on the Reglamento de Tránsito; this free bank offers independent English-language practice built from the official 54-question guide and the 2025 reform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who must take the knowledge exam in the Estado de México?

The Secretaría de Movilidad requires the exam only for new procedures: first-time automovilista, motociclista and chofer de servicio particular licenses, and minors' practice permits. Renewals do not require it.

Is there an official study guide?

Yes. The Secretaría de Movilidad publishes the 'Guía para el Examen de Conocimientos del Reglamento de Tránsito' with 54 questions and answers. Some of its answers predate the 2025 reform (for example, fines expressed in minimum wages), so study it together with the current Reglamento.

What are the default speed limits in the Estado de México?

Article 64 of the Reglamento sets 50 km/h inside population centers, 20 km/h near schools, public offices, sports units, hospitals, churches and other meeting places when people are present, 80 km/h in the central lanes of controlled-access roads, and 50 km/h on vías primarias. Other roads follow their posted signs.

What are the alcohol rules for drivers?

Article 106 bis sets 0.8 g/L in blood or 0.4 mg/L in exhaled air for drivers in general, 0.1 mg/L in exhaled air or 0.02 g/dL in blood for motorcyclists since the 2025 reform, and zero for passenger transport, cargo and hazardous-substance operators. Exceeding them brings a non-commutable arrest of 12 to 36 hours set by the oficial calificador.

What changed in the November 2025 reform?

The reform, in force since 25 November 2025, replaced fixed fines with minimum, medium and maximum ranges based on unpaid sanctions, set detailed motorcycle helmet standards, replaced the flat ban on child passengers under 12 with a rule based on whether the child can hold on and reach the footrests, and broadened the definition of invading confined public transport lanes.

Is this practice bank an official Secretaría de Movilidad test?

No. It is independent practice by OpenExamPrep. The official exam is in Spanish; these English-language multiple-choice questions are a study adaptation that keeps official Spanish terms, not the official items.
