Sample EUC-ENFER Practice Questions

Try these sample questions to review concepts for the EUC-ENFER exam. Each question includes a detailed explanation. Start the interactive quiz above for the full 100+ question experience with AI tutoring.

1A nurse performs a focused abdominal assessment on a patient admitted with abdominal pain. In what order should the examination techniques be used?
A.Inspection, auscultation, percussion, palpation
B.Inspection, palpation, percussion, auscultation
C.Palpation, inspection, auscultation, percussion
D.Auscultation, inspection, palpation, percussion
Explanation: For the abdomen, auscultation comes right after inspection because percussion and palpation can change bowel sounds. Painful areas are palpated last.
2During an admission interview, which question is open-ended?
A.Do you have pain when you walk?
B.Have you taken all of your blood pressure pills today?
C.How has your breathing changed over the past week?
D.Is the pain worse at night than in the morning?
Explanation: An open-ended question invites the patient to describe the experience in their own words and yields richer subjective data. Questions that can be answered with yes, no or a single choice are closed questions, useful for confirming specific details.
3Under the Acciones Esenciales para la Seguridad del Paciente, when must a hospitalized patient's fall risk be reassessed after the admission evaluation?
A.Only when the patient has already fallen or is about to be discharged
B.At each shift change, on transfer, and when the patient's condition or treatment changes
C.Once every 72 hours, together with the routine change of the peripheral catheter
D.Once a week, unless the physician writes an order for more frequent evaluation
Explanation: Acción Esencial 6 requires fall-risk reassessment at every shift change, when the patient moves to another area or service, when the patient's health status changes and when treatment is changed or modified. Patients and relatives are also told about the risk and the preventive measures.
4A 50-year-old woman weighs 85 kg and is 1.62 m tall. What is her body mass index, and how is it classified?
A.27.4 kg/m²; overweight
B.52.5 kg/m²; grade III obesity
C.29.8 kg/m²; overweight
D.32.4 kg/m²; grade I obesity
Explanation: BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²) = 85 ÷ (1.62 × 1.62) = 85 ÷ 2.62 ≈ 32.4 kg/m². A BMI of 30 to 34.9 kg/m² is classified as grade I obesity.
5A patient reports that since starting evening shifts at work she sleeps about four hours a night and wakes up tired. In Marjory Gordon's functional health patterns, which pattern do these data belong to?
A.Activity-exercise
B.Cognitive-perceptual
C.Sleep-rest
D.Coping-stress tolerance
Explanation: Gordon's sleep-rest pattern covers the quantity and quality of sleep and rest and how rested the person feels. Organizing data by pattern helps the nurse spot altered patterns and the related nursing diagnoses.
6Under NOM-022-SSA3-2012 on intravenous infusion therapy, how often must staff at minimum monitor the infusion and check the catheter insertion site?
A.At least once per shift
B.Once every 72 hours
C.Only when the patient reports pain
D.Once a day, on the morning round
Explanation: Section 6.11.1 of NOM-022-SSA3-2012 requires health staff to monitor the infusion and evaluate the insertion site at least once per shift, so that phlebitis, infiltration or dislodgement is detected early.
7Two hours after a forearm cast is applied, a patient reports increasing pain that does not improve with elevation or analgesics, and pain when the nurse passively extends the fingers. What do these findings suggest?
A.Normal swelling that settles within the first 48 hours
B.Early skin irritation from the cast padding
C.A reaction to the analgesic that was given
D.Possible compartment syndrome needing urgent reporting
Explanation: Pain out of proportion to the injury, unrelieved by elevation and analgesia, and worse with passive stretch of the muscles is an early sign of compartment syndrome. The nurse checks the other neurovascular signs and notifies the physician at once, because the cast may need to be split.
8An older patient with advanced dementia cannot rate pain on a numeric scale. How should the nurse assess pain?
A.Assume there is no pain unless the patient complains of it or asks for medication for it
B.Use an observational scale based on behaviors such as facial expression and vocalization
C.Ask a relative to give a 0 to 10 number on the patient's behalf
D.Rely only on changes in heart rate and blood pressure to detect pain
Explanation: When a patient cannot self-report, pain is assessed with a validated observational tool (for example PAINAD, which scores breathing, negative vocalization, facial expression, body language and consolability), taking into account any known painful conditions.
9An automated monitor shows a blood pressure of 82/50 mmHg in a patient whose earlier readings were about 128/76 mmHg. The patient is alert, warm and talking normally. What should the nurse do first?
A.Lay the patient flat and start an intravenous fluid bolus
B.Record the value and recheck it at the next scheduled round
C.Repeat the measurement manually with a correctly sized cuff
D.Call the rapid response team to the bedside immediately
Explanation: Data that conflict with the clinical picture must be validated before acting. A manual reading with the right cuff confirms or rules out a measurement error; if hypotension is confirmed, the nurse acts and notifies at once.
10A woman with well-controlled type 2 diabetes tells the nurse she wants to learn to plan her meals to improve her glucose readings further. Which type of NANDA-I nursing diagnosis best fits?
A.Health promotion diagnosis
B.Risk diagnosis
C.Problem-focused (actual) diagnosis
D.Syndrome diagnosis
Explanation: A health promotion diagnosis describes a person's motivation and desire to increase well-being, such as readiness for enhanced self-management. It is used when the person expresses a wish to improve, even without a current problem.

EUC-ENFER: Suggested Study Strategy

1Practice writing and checking NANDA-I diagnoses in PES format, and link each goal (NOC) and intervention (NIC) to the diagnosis's related factors.
2Review the specific times and rules in NOM-022-SSA3-2012: infusion-set changes, peripheral catheter replacement, antiseptics and solutions that need a central line.
3Learn the eight Acciones Esenciales para la Seguridad del Paciente in detail, including identifiers, verbal orders, double checks, surgical marking and fall reassessment.
4Study the administrative process and quality tools (Gantt, Ishikawa, Pareto, AMEF) with examples from nursing services.
5Review research basics used in practice: study designs, relative risk, confounding, variables and the Mexican research-ethics rules.

Why is this practice bank in English?

The official EUC-ENFER is in Spanish. This bank is an independent English-language study adaptation with four-option multiple-choice questions organized by the official areas; it is not an official translation or a simulation of the full exam. Mexican program and norm names are kept in Spanish.
