1Under the NIF conceptual framework (NIF A-1), which basic postulate (postulado básico) assumes that the entity will continue operating for the foreseeable future, so that its assets and liabilities are valued on that basis rather than at liquidation values?
A.Entidad económica
B.Negocio en marcha
C.Devengación contable
D.Dualidad económica
Explanation: Negocio en marcha (going concern) presumes the entity will continue to operate unless there is evidence to the contrary. If management intends or is forced to liquidate, the statements are prepared on a different basis, with appropriate disclosure.
2Under the postulado básico of asociación de costos y gastos con ingresos, when are the costs and expenses incurred to generate revenue recognized in profit or loss?
A.When they are paid in cash
B.When the tax authority allows them as deductions
C.In the same period in which the revenue they helped generate is recognized
D.Only at the end of the entity's life, when all revenue has been earned
Explanation: Costs that will generate future revenue are held as assets (for example inventories) and are recognized as expenses, such as cost of sales, when the related revenue is recognized. Tax rules do not govern accounting recognition.
3In December 2025 a manufacturer receives a non-refundable advance of MXN 1,000,000 (40% of the price) for machinery it will deliver in March 2026. How is the advance presented on 31 December 2025 under NIF D-1?
A.As revenue for 2025, because the cash is non-refundable
B.As a contract liability (anticipo de clientes)
C.As a direct credit to retained earnings
D.As an item of other comprehensive income until delivery
Explanation: Under NIF D-1, revenue is recognized when a performance obligation is satisfied by transferring control of the good. Consideration received before that point is a contract liability, whether or not it is refundable.
4Under NIF B-2, which transaction is excluded from the body of the statement of cash flows and disclosed instead in the notes?
A.Cash paid to buy equipment with funds from operations
B.Machinery acquired under a lease, with no cash paid at the start
C.Cash collected from customers whose receivables had been impaired
D.Employee profit sharing (PTU) paid in cash during the year
Explanation: Investing and financing transactions that do not involve cash, such as acquiring assets through a lease or converting debt to equity, are not presented in the statement itself but disclosed in the notes.
5A company reports profit of MXN 1,200,000, depreciation of MXN 250,000, an increase in receivables of MXN 120,000, a decrease in inventories of MXN 80,000 and an increase in payables of MXN 150,000. Ignoring taxes and interest, what is operating cash flow under the indirect method of NIF B-2?
A.MXN 1,480,000
B.MXN 1,260,000
C.MXN 1,680,000
D.MXN 1,560,000
Explanation: 1,200,000 + 250,000 - 120,000 + 80,000 + 150,000 = MXN 1,560,000. Non-cash expenses are added back; increases in operating assets reduce cash and increases in operating liabilities provide cash.
6Under NIF B-3, how is other comprehensive income (otro resultado integral, ORI) presented?
A.Combined with gross profit and presented before operating income in the income statement
B.After net income, separating items that will be recycled from those that will not
C.Only in the retained earnings column of the statement of changes in equity
D.As ordinary operating items that management chooses to exclude from EBITDA
Explanation: ORI includes items that specific NIF require to be recognized outside net income, such as foreign-operation translation effects and the effective portion of cash flow hedges. They are presented after net income in the statement of comprehensive income.
7Under NIF B-8, what determines whether an entity must consolidate an investee?
A.Owning more than 50% of the voting shares, even without power over decisions
B.Control: power over relevant activities, exposure to variable returns, and ability to affect them
C.Significant influence through board seats and 20% to 50% of the voting rights
D.Joint control of decisions that require the unanimous consent of the parties
Explanation: Control is the only basis for consolidation. A majority of voting shares is an indicator, but it is neither necessary nor sufficient if another party directs the relevant activities.
8Under NIF B-10, when is an economic environment inflationary?
A.When annual inflation exceeds 10% in any quarter
B.When cumulative inflation over the three preceding years is 26% or more
C.When cumulative inflation over five years exceeds 50%
D.When the minimum wage rises faster than Banco de México's inflation target
Explanation: Cumulative three-year inflation of 26% or more (about 8% a year on average) makes the environment inflationary. Only then must entities restate non-monetary items and recognize the result from monetary position (REPOMO).
9In an inflationary environment, an entity's average monetary assets were MXN 2,000,000 and its average monetary liabilities MXN 3,500,000. Inflation for the year was 6.0%. What is its REPOMO?
A.A loss of MXN 90,000 in the RIF
B.A loss of MXN 210,000 in equity
C.A gain of MXN 120,000 in operating income
D.A gain of MXN 90,000 in the RIF
Explanation: The net monetary position is a liability of MXN 1,500,000. Owing money during inflation produces a purchasing power gain: 1,500,000 × 6% = MXN 90,000, recognized in the resultado integral de financiamiento.
10Under NIF C-1, how is a bank overdraft presented when the entity has no legal right to offset it against other balances at the same bank?
A.Offset against positive balances at other banks, within current assets
B.As a short-term liability
C.As a deduction from stockholders' equity
D.As a non-current deferred charge
Explanation: An overdraft is a short-term financial obligation to the bank. Offsetting it against cash balances requires an enforceable legal right of set-off.
