Who is eligible to sit for the Mongolian Notary Qualification Exam?

Article 6.1 of the Law on Notariat lets a Mongolian citizen carry out notarial activity if they have passed the lawyer professional examination and the notary qualification examination, have never been convicted of an intentional crime, and have premises for performing notarial acts. The 2022 registration notice asked applicants for a law bachelor's diploma, a lawyer certificate, a mental-health examination certificate and proof of fee payment.

How often is the Mongolian Notary Exam held?

Article 15.7 of the Law on Notariat requires the exam to be held nationwide every three years, taking into account notarial districts, positions and need. The Minister decides case by case whether to hold an exam for a district that has no notary. The exam must be announced in the daily media at least 45 days before it starts (Article 15.8).

What does the notary exam consist of?

The Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs' 2022 notice describes the exam as a test (сорил), case problems (бодлого) and an interview (ярилцлага), all in Mongolian. The notices do not publish item counts, time limits or pass marks; these are set by the Qualification Committee's working procedure.

Who issues the notary license?
