PSI requires test takers to score at least 70% on the National Barber Theory Test.
Is the barber exam different from the cosmetology exam?
Yes. Massachusetts uses PSI's National Barber Theory Test, whose published outline gives 22% to shaving and includes no nail-care domain.
Is Massachusetts law on the barber exam?
No. The PSI content outline has eight topics and none of them is Massachusetts law. 240 CMR 8.00 governs how you practise and what an inspector checks, but it is not sampled on the theory test.
