How is the TOLC-SU structured and scored?
The official core TOLC-SU contains 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 100 minutes: Reading Comprehension and Knowledge of the Italian Language (30 questions, 60 min), Acquired Knowledge (10 questions, 20 min), and Logical Reasoning (10 questions, 20 min). Each correct response earns +1 point, unanswered questions receive 0 points, and incorrect responses deduct -0.25 points. An additional 30-question English placement section (15 min) is evaluated separately with no penalty for wrong answers.
Where can the TOLC-SU be taken?
Candidates can take the exam either in person at an accredited university computer laboratory (TOLC all'università) or remotely from home using a supervised computer and mobile device setup (TOLC@CASA).
What are Additional Educational Obligations (OFA) in TOLC-SU?
Italian universities establish section-specific or total threshold scores (most frequently in the Reading Comprehension and Italian Language section). If an enrolled student's score falls below the university's threshold, they receive Obblighi Formativi Aggiuntivi (OFA), which must be resolved through remedial coursework or assessments during their first academic year.
