About the Iraq Heavy Vehicle Driving Theory Exam
Iraq's public and heavy vehicle driving licence (عمومي) is issued by the General Directorate of Traffic (مديرية المرور العامة) under the Ministry of Interior for goods vehicles and passenger transport. Traffic Law No. 8 of 2019 (قانون المرور رقم 8 لسنة 2019) defines a heavy vehicle as a goods vehicle over 2.5 tonnes unladen and a bus as a vehicle built to carry more than fourteen passengers, split at twenty-six seats into light and heavy buses. Article 21 sets higher minimum ages for the commercial categories — 20 years for categories (ب) and (و), 25 years for category (ج) — and requires a practical test matching the licence type. Commercial drivers also carry specific statutory duties: covering loads securely, staying within prescribed load heights, keeping goods vehicles off the left of the carriageway, and observing the lower expressway speed band for goods vehicles. This practice bank is an independent English-language multiple-choice study adaptation by OpenExamPrep; the official test is conducted in Arabic and this bank is not a translation of it or a simulation of its format.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum age for a commercial driving licence in Iraq?
Article 21 of Traffic Law No. 8 of 2019 sets the age by category letter: 16 years for category (ز), 18 years for categories (أ) and (هـ) and the disabled-driver and deaf-and-mute categories, 20 years for categories (ب) and (و), and 25 years for category (ج) — the highest age bar in the law.
How does Iraqi law define a heavy vehicle and a bus?
Article 1 defines a light vehicle as one built to carry people or goods weighing up to 2.5 tonnes, and a heavy vehicle as a goods vehicle whose unladen weight exceeds 2.5 tonnes. A bus is a vehicle designed to carry more than fourteen passengers, split into light buses seating up to twenty-six excluding the driver and heavy buses seating more.
What is the maximum speed for a goods vehicle on an Iraqi expressway?
The General Directorate of Traffic's speed statement sets external expressway limits by vehicle type: 120 km/h for saloon cars, 100 km/h for passenger buses and 90 km/h for goods vehicles, with minimums of 80, 80 and 70 km/h. On expressways inside cities the ceilings fall to 100, 90 and 80 km/h with a 60 km/h minimum.
Which load offences carry the heaviest fines under Traffic Law No. 8 of 2019?
Two load offences sit in Article 25(First), the 200,000 IQD tier: failing to cover a goods vehicle's load securely enough to stop it scattering or falling in transit, and exceeding the prescribed load height or overhanging the sides of the vehicle. A traffic officer may also hold the vehicle for up to five days for any Article 25(First) offence.
Is there a road-position rule specific to goods vehicles?
Yes. Article 25(Third) fines goods vehicles, agricultural machinery and modified motorcycles that travel on the left-hand side of the road, at 50,000 IQD. Iraq drives on the right, so heavy and slower traffic is expected to keep right.
In which language is the official test conducted?
The official test is administered in Arabic by the General Directorate of Traffic. This 100-question bank is an independent English-language multiple-choice study adaptation by OpenExamPrep — not an official translation, not a simulation of the official format, and not a substitute for the practical test on the vehicle class.
