Try these sample questions to test your CMAT exam readiness. Each question includes a detailed explanation. Start the interactive quiz above for the full 100+ question experience with AI tutoring.

1A shopkeeper marks an article 25% above cost price and gives a 10% discount on the marked price. What is the profit percentage?
A.12.5%
B.15%
C.10%
D.17.5%
Explanation: Marked price = 125% of CP. Selling price = 90% of MP = 0.9 × 1.25 × CP = 1.125 × CP, so profit is 12.5% on cost.
2Simple interest on a sum at 8% per annum for 3 years is ₹4,800. What is the principal?
A.₹20,000
B.₹18,000
C.₹24,000
D.₹16,000
Explanation: SI = P × R × T / 100 → 4800 = P × 8 × 3 / 100 → P = 4800 × 100 / 24 = ₹20,000.
3The ratio of present ages of A and B is 4:5. After 6 years the ratio becomes 5:6. What is B's present age?
A.30 years
B.24 years
C.36 years
D.20 years
Explanation: Let ages be 4x and 5x. (4x+6)/(5x+6) = 5/6 → 24x+36 = 25x+30 → x = 6, so B = 5x = 30 years.
4A train 150 m long crosses a platform 350 m long in 20 seconds. What is the speed of the train in km/h?
A.90 km/h
B.72 km/h
C.108 km/h
D.60 km/h
Explanation: Total distance = 150 + 350 = 500 m. Speed = 500/20 = 25 m/s = 25 × 18/5 = 90 km/h.
5What is the compound interest on ₹10,000 at 10% per annum for 2 years, compounded annually?
A.₹2,100
B.₹2,000
C.₹2,200
D.₹1,900
Explanation: Amount = 10000 × (1.1)² = ₹12,100. CI = 12100 − 10000 = ₹2,100.
6If 12 men can complete a work in 18 days, how many days will 9 men take to complete the same work?
A.24 days
B.27 days
C.21 days
D.30 days
Explanation: Total work = 12 × 18 = 216 man-days. With 9 men, time = 216/9 = 24 days.
7The average of five numbers is 42. If one number is excluded, the average of the remaining four is 38. What is the excluded number?
A.58
B.52
C.46
D.62
Explanation: Sum of five numbers = 5 × 42 = 210. Sum of four = 4 × 38 = 152. Excluded number = 210 − 152 = 58.
8A mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 5:3. If 16 litres of water is added, the ratio becomes 5:5 (1:1). What was the initial quantity of milk?
A.40 litres
B.32 litres
C.48 litres
D.24 litres
Explanation: Let milk = 5x, water = 3x. After adding water: 5x/(3x+16) = 1 → 5x = 3x+16 → x = 8. Milk = 5x = 40 litres.
9What is the HCF of 48 and 72?
A.24
B.12
C.36
D.16
Explanation: 48 = 2⁴×3 and 72 = 2³×3². HCF takes lowest powers: 2³×3 = 24.
10A rectangular field is 80 m long and 60 m wide. A path 2 m wide runs inside along the boundary. What is the area of the path?
A.544 sq m
B.480 sq m
C.560 sq m
D.600 sq m
Explanation: Outer area = 80×60 = 4800 sq m. Inner rectangle = (80−4)×(60−4) = 76×56 = 4256 sq m. Path = 4800 − 4256 = 544 sq m.

CMAT Study Tips from Top Performers

1Treat all five sections equally — each is exactly 20% of the paper, so weak GK or Innovation & Entrepreneurship can erase a strong Quant score
2Practice timed full mocks of 100 questions in 180 minutes; there is no sectional clock, so decide your section order in advance
3For QT & DI, prioritise arithmetic and chart reading speed — CMAT rarely needs CAT-level algebra depth
4Build a daily GK + Startup India / DPIIT scheme habit for 20–30 minutes; these two sections reward factual recall more than CAT does
5Use negative marking discipline: skip guesses below ~50% confidence after eliminating two options
6Review official NTA notices and the Information Bulletin on cmat.nta.nic.in for fee, city, and schedule updates each cycle
