About the Finland A1 Theory Test Exam
The Finland Category A1 theory test is the official light-motorcycle knowledge test for a licence that allows a motorcycle up to 125 cm3 and 11 kW from age 16. The theory test is taken electronically on a tablet at an Ajovarma service point and takes 30 minutes. Traficom's current A1/A2/A structure has 75 questions: 20 multiple-choice questions, 50 questions about images showing traffic situations, and 5 risk-identification questions. The candidate must meet every section minimum: at least 14 multiple-choice answers correct, 43 image answers correct, and 4 risk answers correct. The test may be taken one month before the A1 age requirement, but the candidate needs a valid driving licence permit and, for a first driving licence, EAS training. A passed theory test is valid for one year, and the motorcycle examination also includes a handling test and driving test. From 29 May 2026, confirmed misconduct in the theory test can lead to a six-month ban from taking the theory test.
