About the Algeria Code de la Route Exam
Algeria's theoretical road-code test is one required part of the category-specific driving-licence assessment. Law n° 26-09 of 12 May 2026 replaced Law n° 01-14 and requires complete training followed by theory and practical tests. Décret exécutif n° 04-381 continues to supply detailed circulation rules during the statutory transition to new implementing texts, while the March 2024 curriculum defines theory and practical content and hours by category. Official sources confirm the assessment components but do not publish a theory item count, duration, numeric pass mark, delivery method, or language. This free 100-question bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation covering signs, priorities, speed and manoeuvres, current driver rules and penalties, vehicle safety, first response, and eco-driving. It is not an official translation, official format simulation, or substitute for practical driving instruction and evaluation.
Assessment
Law n° 26-09 requires candidates to complete the full training program for the requested category and pass both theoretical and practical tests under the supervision of driving-licence and road-safety inspectors. The Interior Ministry describes the components as code de la route theory followed by practical manoeuvres and driving. The 2024 curriculum contains common road-rule themes and category-specific material. Official sources reviewed for this audit do not establish a fixed one-month wait between theory and practice. A successful candidate receives a two-year probationary licence and cannot apply for another category during that period. The theory bank does not replace category-specific practical preparation.

Algeria Code de la Route Study Tips from Top Performers
Frequently Asked Questions
Who administers driving-licence testing in Algeria?
Law n° 26-09 assigns the theory and practical tests to driving-licence and road-safety inspectors. The Interior Ministry's road-safety administration and wilaya services organize the process, and the local administrative authority issues the licence.
What is the official format, language, duration, and pass mark?
Official sources reviewed here confirm theoretical and practical tests but do not publish the theory delivery method, item count, assessment language, duration, or numeric pass mark. Claims that the current national test is necessarily oral, bilingual Arabic/French, 15–30 minutes, or zero-error were therefore not retained.
What are the training and testing steps for Category B?
The candidate completes the prescribed category training, including the 2024 curriculum's 30 hours of theory and 30 hours of practical training for Category B, then passes theory and practical tests. Law n° 26-09 allows regulated free instruction for A1, A, and B, so an auto-école is not described here as the only lawful route.
Does Algeria's current Road Code publish a 12-point probationary and 24-point definitive system?
No such point capitals appear in Law n° 26-09. The current law provides a two-year probationary licence and a national information system connecting offence, licence, and registration records. This page does not carry forward the superseded 12/24-point claim.
What are the standard speed limits for a passenger car?
Décret exécutif n° 04-381 sets 50 km/h in built-up areas, 100 km/h outside built-up areas, and 120 km/h on motorways. In rain, those limits become 40, 80, and 100 km/h respectively. A probationary driver must not exceed 80 km/h. Local signs and lawful special limits still control.
What are the fixed contravention fines under Law n° 26-09?
Article 121 sets 3,000 DZD for first degree, 4,000 DZD for second degree, 6,000 DZD for third degree, and 10,000 DZD for fourth degree. Some offences are crimes with different penalties rather than fixed contraventions.
What happens when a licence is retained or a fixed fine is unpaid?
The effect depends on the offence: Article 120 makes some retentions effective immediately and others after 48 hours. Article 110 gives 45 days to pay a fixed fine. If it remains unpaid, the file is sent to the public prosecutor within the period set by Article 112, and the judicial fixed fine is doubled. The old blanket claim that every receipt authorizes ten more days of driving is not used here.
Is this an official Algerian examination or translation?
No. It is an English-language multiple-choice study adaptation. It does not claim to reproduce the official delivery format or language and does not replace manoeuvring, road-driving, or category-specific practical preparation.
