1What is the simplified, irreducible fraction of the numerical expression A = 5/6 - 2/3 * 3/4?
A.1/3
B.1/4
C.1/8
D.1/2
Explanation: According to the order of operations, multiplication precedes subtraction. Calculate the product first: (2/3) * (3/4) = 6/12 = 1/2. Next, subtract from 5/6 by finding a common denominator of 6: 5/6 - 3/6 = 2/6. Simplifying 2/6 by dividing numerator and denominator by 2 gives 1/3.
2What is the simplified radical form of the square root expression B = sqrt(75) - 2 * sqrt(12)?
A.sqrt(3)
B.3 * sqrt(3)
C.2 * sqrt(3)
D.sqrt(63)
Explanation: Simplify each radical by factoring perfect squares: sqrt(75) = sqrt(25 * 3) = 5 * sqrt(3), and sqrt(12) = sqrt(4 * 3) = 2 * sqrt(3). Substituting into the expression gives 5 * sqrt(3) - 2 * (2 * sqrt(3)) = 5 * sqrt(3) - 4 * sqrt(3) = (5 - 4) * sqrt(3) = sqrt(3).
3What is the expanded and simplified form of the algebraic expression C = (2x - 3)^2?
A.4x^2 - 12x + 9
B.4x^2 - 9
C.4x^2 + 9
D.4x^2 - 6x + 9
Explanation: Using the notable identity (a - b)^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2 with a = 2x and b = 3: (2x)^2 - 2(2x)(3) + 3^2 = 4x^2 - 12x + 9.
4What is the solution to the linear equation 5x - 7 = 2x + 8 in the set of real numbers?
A.x = 5
B.x = 1/3
C.x = 3
D.x = -5
Explanation: Isolate the variable terms on one side and constants on the other: 5x - 2x = 8 + 7 => 3x = 15 => x = 15 / 3 = 5.
5In a right-angled triangle ABC with the right angle at B, AB = 6 cm and BC = 8 cm. According to the Pythagorean theorem, what is the length of the hypotenuse AC?
A.10 cm
B.14 cm
C.12 cm
D.48 cm
Explanation: By the Pythagorean theorem, AC^2 = AB^2 + BC^2. Substituting: AC^2 = 6^2 + 8^2 = 36 + 64 = 100. Taking the square root gives AC = sqrt(100) = 10 cm.
6What is the factored form of the expression D = (3x - 1)^2 - 16 using the difference of squares identity?
A.(3x - 5)(3x + 3)
B.(3x - 17)(3x + 15)
C.(3x - 4)^2
D.(3x - 1)(3x - 16)
Explanation: Recognizing the difference of squares a^2 - b^2 = (a - b)(a + b) where a = (3x - 1) and b = sqrt(16) = 4: D = [(3x - 1) - 4][(3x - 1) + 4] = (3x - 5)(3x + 3).
7In a right triangle EFG right-angled at E, the hypotenuse FG = 10 cm and the adjacent side EG = 6 cm. What is the value of cos(angle EGF)?
A.0.60
B.0.80
C.0.75
D.1.67
Explanation: In a right triangle, the cosine of an acute angle is the ratio of the length of the adjacent side to the hypotenuse: cos(angle EGF) = adjacent / hypotenuse = EG / FG = 6 cm / 10 cm = 0.60.
8What is the solution set of the linear inequality -3x + 5 <= -4 in the set of real numbers?
A.x >= 3
B.x <= 3
C.x >= -3
D.x <= -3
Explanation: Subtract 5 from both sides: -3x <= -4 - 5 => -3x <= -9. When dividing both sides by the negative coefficient -3, the inequality sign reverses: x >= -9 / -3 => x >= 3.
9Solve the system of two linear equations: 2x + y = 11 and 3x - 2y = 6. What is the value of the solution pair (x, y)?
A.(4, 3)
B.(3, 5)
C.(5, 1)
D.(2, 7)
Explanation: From the first equation, express y: y = 11 - 2x. Substitute into the second equation: 3x - 2(11 - 2x) = 6 => 3x - 22 + 4x = 6 => 7x = 28 => x = 4. Substitute x = 4 back into y: y = 11 - 2(4) = 11 - 8 = 3. The solution pair is (4, 3). Check: 2(4) + 3 = 11 and 3(4) - 2(3) = 12 - 6 = 6.
10In triangle ABC, M is a point on side [AB] and N is a point on side [AC] such that line (MN) is parallel to line (BC). If AM = 4 cm, AB = 10 cm, and MN = 6 cm, what is the length of side BC according to Thales's theorem?
A.15 cm
B.12 cm
C.18 cm
D.8 cm
Explanation: By Thales's theorem in triangle ABC with (MN) // (BC): AM / AB = AN / AC = MN / BC. Therefore, AM / AB = MN / BC => 4 / 10 = 6 / BC => 4 * BC = 6 * 10 = 60 => BC = 60 / 4 = 15 cm.

Brevet de l'Enseignement Fondamental (BEF) Study Tips from Top Performers

1Use official French past papers for full comprehension responses, dictation, and thirty-line written production after reviewing grammar here.
2Show reasoning for mathematics; the official paper awards method and incomplete research, unlike this MCQ adaptation.
3Practise spreadsheet formulas and simple scripts because the official mathematics blueprint requires algorithmics/programming.
4Study science as a contextual, document-based problem rather than as disconnected recall questions.
5Bilingual-section candidates must separately practise the official Arabic paper in Arabic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the current exam BEF or BEPC?

The common French-stream 9e année diploma is the BEF created in 2024, replacing the former general BEPC framework. DGECE separately lists a current BEPC Arabe, which is not this exam.

What are the common BEF papers?

French, mathematics, and one combined-science paper. Candidates in bilingual schools also sit Arabic. History-geography and English are not terminal BEF papers under the 2024 decree.

Does passing automatically admit a pupil to Seconde?

No. The governing decree expressly says that obtaining the diploma does not itself guarantee progression to Seconde.

Is this bank an official-format mock exam?

No. It is an English four-option MCQ revision aid and cannot reproduce the official French writing, justified mathematics, integrated documents, or bilingual Arabic paper.
