About the Schleswig-Holstein Abitur French Exam
Schleswig-Holstein Zentralabitur Französisch is the state French-language examination for the Allgemeine Hochschulreife, taken as a written Kernfach or Profil-/weiteres Prüfungsfach under the Landesverordnung über die Gestaltung der Oberstufe und der Abiturprüfung (OAPVO). Since the 2021/22 introduction of the Profiloberstufe, every candidate studies Deutsch, Mathematik and one fortgeführte Fremdsprache as obligatorische Kernfächer; Französisch is one of the language options (with Englisch, Spanisch, Russisch, Dänisch, Latein and Griechisch) that can fill that third Kernfach slot, always taught and examined at erhöhtem Anforderungsniveau. Content follows the Fachanforderungen Französisch and the KMK Bildungsstandards für die fortgeführte Fremdsprache (Allgemeine Hochschulreife, 2012), targeting CEFR B2 with select competencies at C1: functional communicative competence (Leseverstehen, Schreiben, Sprachmittlung), soziokulturelles Orientierungswissen, Text- und Medienkompetenz, and Verfügung über sprachliche Mittel. Schleswig-Holstein sets rotating Zentralabitur-Themenkorridore; for the 2026 Abiturjahrgang these are Thème 1, 'L'individu dans la société' (conceptions de vie, société multiculturelle, valeurs de la société), and Thème 2, 'La France et la francophonie' (héritage colonial, relations franco-africaines, coopération francophone), illustrated in current teaching materials by texts including Gaël Faye's 'Petit pays', Albert Camus's 'L'Hôte', Édouard Louis's 'Qui a tué mon père', Marie Féraud's 'Anne ici, Sélima là-bas', Amandine Dhée's 'À mains nues', Marie-Florence Ehret's 'Fille des crocodiles', and Sabine Panet/Pauline Penot's 'Le cœur n'est pas un genou que l'on peut plier'. This free bank of 100 original multiple-choice questions is an English-language study adaptation designed to build and check factual and analytical command of that content. It is not a simulation of the official exam, which is written in French (plus a German-to-French Sprachmittlung task) and answered in extended prose.

Schleswig-Holstein Abitur French: Suggested Study Strategy
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the official Schleswig-Holstein Französisch Zentralabitur exam multiple-choice?
No. The official written paper has two parts: Leseverstehen/Schreiben, a French-language text-based task with a choice of sub-tasks, and Sprachmittlung, transferring a German-language source into French. This bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation for learning and checking the underlying content and language competencies, not a simulation of the official format or a substitute for French-language writing and translation practice.
Why are the questions in English when the exam is in French?
This bank is a study aid for building factual and analytical command of the Fachanforderungen content in English. French titles, author names, and technical terms — Sprachmittlung, Themenkorridor, soziokulturelles Orientierungswissen and so on — are preserved exactly as used in the curriculum, and tested French vocabulary/grammar points are kept in French, so you can carry them straight into French-language revision.
What are the confirmed Themenkorridore for the 2026 Schleswig-Holstein Französisch Abitur?
For the 2026 Abiturjahrgang, the confirmed corridors are Thème 1, 'L'individu dans la société' (conceptions de vie, société multiculturelle, valeurs de la société), and Thème 2, 'La France et la francophonie' (héritage colonial, relations franco-africaines, coopération francophone). Current teaching materials illustrate these with texts including 'Petit pays', 'L'Hôte', 'Qui a tué mon père', 'Anne ici, Sélima là-bas', 'À mains nues', 'Fille des crocodiles' and 'Le cœur n'est pas un genou que l'on peut plier'. Themenkorridore rotate by Abiturjahrgang, so always check the current Prüfungsregelungen for your own exam year.
Is Französisch a Kernfach in the Schleswig-Holstein Abitur?
It can be. Since the Profiloberstufe reform of 2021/22, every candidate studies Deutsch, Mathematik and one fortgeführte Fremdsprache as obligatorische Kernfächer; Französisch is one of the language options (with Englisch, Spanisch, Russisch, Dänisch, Latein and Griechisch) that can fill that third Kernfach slot, always at erhöhtem Anforderungsniveau. Candidates can also study Französisch as a Profil- or further Abiturprüfungsfach instead.
How long is the written exam and what parts does it have?
285 minutes total, including a 15-minute Lese- und Auswahlzeit, with roughly 210 minutes envisaged for Leseverstehen/Schreiben and 60 minutes for Sprachmittlung (translating a German source into French). Permitted aids are a monolingual and a bilingual French dictionary. There is no separately graded Hörverstehen (listening) task at Kernfach level in Schleswig-Holstein. Exact scheduling is re-issued every year via za.schleswig-holstein.de.
When was the exam held in 2026?
The written Französisch Kernfach exam in the 2026 main session was set for Friday, 8 May 2026 — the last of the written Kernfach/Naturwissenschaften Schreibtage (Biologie 22.4., Physik 23.4., Chemie 24.4., Deutsch 28.4., other Kernfach-Fremdsprachen 30.4., Mathematik 6.5., Französisch 8.5.). Mündliche Prüfungen ran from 15 to 26 June 2026. Exact makeup-exam (Nachtermin) dates for illness are set centrally each year; candidates should confirm current dates through their school.
Is there an exam fee?
No. The Abitur is a state school examination in Schleswig-Holstein and regularly enrolled school candidates pay no fee. Externenprüfungen are handled separately by individual schools and carry no published Französisch-specific fee in the sources reviewed.
