North Rhine-Westphalia Zentralabitur Geschichte is the statewide centrally-set written History examination administered by the Ministerium für Schule und Bildung NRW, based on the Kernlehrplan Geschichte für die gymnasiale Oberstufe. Core Inhaltsfelder cover National Socialism, 19th-20th century German nationalism/identity, and modern peace orders including the Cold War; a new content field on China and Russia's imperial structures was added for the 2026+ Abitur. The exam requires German-language historical source analysis and essay writing — not MCQ.
