About the Hesse Abitur Spanish GK Exam

Hesse Spanisch Grundkurs is the basic-course written Landesabitur Spanish assessment administered by the Hessisches Ministerium für Kultus, Bildung und Chancen. Preparation for 2026 rests on the OAVO (20.7.2009, last amended 18.3.2021), the KCGO Spanisch per VOKCGOBG (Ausgabe 2024), and the LA26 Abiturerlass (Erlass vom 26.6.2024), whose section 7 publishes the binding Themenfelder for Grundkurs and Leistungskurs. The real paper is written in Spanish across two Prüfungsteile — Sprachmittlung and Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen — with task choice only in GK Teil 2 (B1/B2). This free English MCQ bank trains grammar accuracy, Landeskunde and Themenfeld concepts, Sprachmittlung judgment, and exam-format awareness before students practise full official-style Klausur tasks. Disclosure: English MCQ adaptation — not an official translation, format simulation, or substitute for timed Spanish writing.

Exam sponsor: Hessisches Ministerium für Kultus, Bildung und Chancen (Hessian Ministry of Education and Opportunities). The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Assessment

Official written Spanisch Grundkurs (Landesabitur Hessen) is a constructed-response examination written in Spanish with landeseinheitliche tasks set by Hesse (Spanisch is not in the IQB Abituraufgabenpools). Per LA26 Erlass section 7: Prüfungsteil 1 is Sprachmittlung — mediation of a 400–650-word source text into Spanish for a specified audience and purpose, never a literal translation; Prüfungsteil 2 is Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen, ggf. mit Gestaltungsanteilen, based on a 500–800-word GK stimulus text (poems and other highly condensed texts may fall below the minimum). GK candidates choose B1 or B2 in Teil 2. Content draws on the KCGO Spanisch and nine LA26 Themenfelder: Q1.1 La conquista de América, Q1.2 El mundo hispanohablante (Bolivia), Q1.3 Desigualdad social y económica, Q2.1 Opresión y emancipación política, Q2.2 La dictadura franquista, Q2.4 Democratización e identidad (Cataluña), Q3.1 Conceptos familiares, Q3.2 Procesos migratorios, Q3.3 Metrópolis. GK Pflichtlektüre: a novel or drama (whole work or characteristic extracts) with focus on interpersonal relationships. Assessment follows the modern-foreign-languages framework: Teil 1 and Teil 2 are evaluated separately and rounding occurs only when the overall grade is computed. This 100-question bank is an English MCQ study adaptation only — it does not simulate official Spanish constructed-response production or timed writing.

Time Limit

255 minutes including the (non-separately-identified) selection time — the Bearbeitungszeit for a Grundkursfach per §25 Abs. 2 OAVO and LA26 Erlass section II. Haupttermin GK Spanisch: Monday 20 April 2026 (Durchführungsbestimmungen). Written Landesabitur 2026 window: 15 April – 8 May 2026; Nachprüfungen 19 May – 3 June 2026.

Passing Score

Subject performance is reported on the 15-point Notenpunkte scale (0–15; 5 points = ausreichend). The Abitur requires a Gesamtqualifikation of at least 300 of 900 points; the exam block (five Prüfungsleistungen, each weighted 4x) requires at least 100 of 300 points, no Prüfungsleistung at 0 points, and at most three results below 5 points (of which at most one in a Leistungskurs). Not a single MCQ percent cut score.

Exam / Certification Fees

No exam fee for regular school candidates; the Landesabitur is a state school examination taken through the Hesse school pathway. External-candidate (Nichtschüler) arrangements, if any, are school/authority-specific and not a published fee.

Hesse Abitur Spanish GK: Suggested Study Strategy

1Master the nine LA26 Themenfelder — erlass tasks target Bolivia (Q1.2), Cataluña (Q2.4) and the Q3 contemporary themes explicitly.
2Drill high-frequency GK grammar: subjuntivo after triggers, indefinido vs imperfecto, condicionales and estilo indirecto — accuracy drives both Prüfungsteile.
3Practise Sprachmittlung as mediation, not translation: identify audience, purpose and register first, then select and reformulate content in Spanish.
4Prepare both B1 and B2 Schreiben proposals — you choose on the day and must document your choice on the Deckblatt.
5After MCQ concept work, write timed Spanish Klausur tasks with only the permitted paper dictionaries; MCQs build recognition, not the production stamina the real exam demands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the official Hesse Spanisch Grundkurs Abitur a multiple-choice exam?

No. The official written paper is a constructed-response Klausur written in Spanish (the official exam language in a foreign-language subject is the target language), with two Prüfungsteile: Sprachmittlung and Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen. This bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation — it is not an official translation, not a bilingual sitting, and not a simulation of the official format.

How long is the Spanisch GK written exam and is there a task choice?

Bearbeitungszeit for a Grundkursfach is 255 minutes including selection time (§25 Abs. 2 OAVO; LA26 Erlass section II). In Teil 1 all candidates complete Pflichtvorschlag A (Sprachmittlung). In Teil 2 Grundkurs candidates choose between proposals B1 and B2 (Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen), documented on the Deckblatt.

What do the two Prüfungsteile involve?

Prüfungsteil 1 (Sprachmittlung) asks you to mediate a 400–650-word source text into Spanish for a defined audience and purpose — selective and reformulated, never a literal translation. Prüfungsteil 2 (Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen, ggf. mit Gestaltungsanteilen) is based on a 500–800-word GK stimulus text; highly condensed texts such as poems may fall below the minimum.

Which themes does the LA26 Erlass prescribe for Spanisch 2026?

Nine Themenfelder: Q1.1 La conquista de América, Q1.2 El mundo hispanohablante (Bolivia), Q1.3 Desigualdad social y económica, Q2.1 Opresión y emancipación política, Q2.2 La dictadura franquista, Q2.4 Democratización e identidad (Cataluña), Q3.1 Conceptos familiares, Q3.2 Procesos migratorios en el mundo hispanohablante and Q3.3 Metrópolis.

What is the GK Pflichtlektüre requirement?

Per LA26 section 7.3, Grundkurs candidates study a novel or drama (Ganzschrift or characteristic extracts) with the thematic focus zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen (interpersonal relationships). At least one exam task will relate to the prescribed LK works or the GK Lektüre focus.

Which aids are allowed?

A German spelling dictionary; one introduced monolingual Spanish dictionary with at most 300,000 headwords and one introduced bilingual dictionary with at most 250,000 headwords (electronic dictionaries are not allowed); uncommented text editions of the Pflichtlektüre; and the list of subject-specific operators.

Is there an exam fee?

No. The Landesabitur is a state school examination; regular school candidates pay no fee. External-candidate arrangements, where they exist, are school/authority-specific and not a published fee.
