About the Hesse Abitur Italian GK Exam
Hesse Italienisch Grundkurs is the basic-course written Landesabitur Italian assessment administered by the Hessisches Ministerium für Kultus, Bildung und Chancen. Preparation for 2026 rests on the OAVO (20.7.2009, last amended 18.3.2021), the KCGO Italienisch per VOKCGOBG (17.7.2018, last amended 27.7.2022), and the LA26 Abiturerlass (Erlass vom 26.6.2024), whose section 8 publishes the binding Themenfelder with Grundkurs/Leistungskurs differentiation. The real paper is written in Italian across two Prüfungsteile — Sprachmittlung and Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen — with a B1/B2 choice in Teil 2 and landeseinheitliche central tasks. Per LA26 Erlass section 8: Prüfungsteil 1 is Sprachmittlung — mediation of a 400–650-word source text into Italian for a specified audience and purpose, never a literal translation; Prüfungsteil 2 is Schreiben mit integriertem Leseverstehen, ggf. mit Gestaltungsanteilen, based on a 500–800-word GK stimulus text (poems and other highly condensed texts may fall below the minimum). In the Grundkurs, Teil 1 is mandatory (Pflichtvorschlag A) and the candidate chooses one of B1 or B2 in Teil 2. Content draws on the KCGO Italienisch and nine LA26 Themenfelder at grundlegendes Niveau: Q1.1 Realtà famigliari, Q1.2 Educazione, Q1.3 Emancipazione e cambiamento dei ruoli, Q2.1 Processi migratori, Q2.2 Oppressione e resistenza, Q2.3 Sviluppo diseguale, Q3.1 L'individuo e le sue responsabilità, Q3.2 Criminalità organizzata, Q3.5 Norme e valori. Passing Score
Subject performance is reported on the 15-point Notenpunkte scale (0–15; 5 points = ausreichend). The Abitur requires a Gesamtqualifikation of at least 300 of 900 points; the exam block (five Prüfungsleistungen, each weighted 4x) requires at least 100 of 300 points, no Prüfungsleistung at 0 points, and at most three results below 5 points (of which at most one in a Leistungskurs). Not a single MCQ percent cut score.

Unlike Italienisch Leistungskurs (assigned via Einzelerlass under §7 Abs. 5 OAVO with decentralized task creation), Italienisch Grundkurs uses landeseinheitliche central task sets prepared for the Hesse Landesabitur, regulated by the Durchführungsbestimmungen zum Landesabitur 2026. The LA26 Erlass Themenfelder still bind the content.
Which aids are allowed?
A German spelling dictionary; one introduced monolingual Italian dictionary with at most 300,000 headwords and one introduced bilingual dictionary with at most 250,000 headwords (electronic dictionaries are not allowed); uncommented text editions of the Pflichtlektüre; and the list of subject-specific operators.
Is there an exam fee?
