About the BY Abitur Musik eA Exam
Musik at erhöhtes Anforderungsniveau is the Leistungsfach pathway of the 2026 Bavarian Abitur (first G9 cohort), assigned to the Aufgabenfeld sprachlich-literarisch-künstlerisch. Choosing Musik as Leistungsfach commits students to a written Besondere Fachprüfung with equal theory and practice parts (BayMBl. 2023 Nr. 323). The course is four-hourly (three hours Fachunterricht + one hour Instrument/Gesang). LehrplanPLUS Q-phase Lernbereiche: Western vocal music (12/1), Musik und Tradition and Musik und Technik (12/2), Western instrumental music (13/1), and selected music since 1900 (13/2). Prerequisites include Musik in Jgst. 11 (or Feststellungsprüfung), at least Note 3 in the Jgst. 11 Zwischenzeugnis (with stated exceptions), and demonstrated instrumental/vocal skill per the ISB Literaturlisten. This free bank offers 100 original English MCQs for concept practice only; it does not assess live performance and cannot replace German Fachtheorie training with score and audio materials.
Exam sponsor: Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Unterricht und Kultus (KM Bayern); the Staatsinstitut für Schulqualität und Bildungsforschung (ISB) publishes curricula support, Illustrierende Prüfungsaufgaben and Literaturlisten. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.
Assessment
Per the ISB Übersichtsblatt Illustrierende Prüfungsaufgaben Musik (Stand September 2023) and BayMBl. 2023 Nr. 323, Musik as Leistungsfach (eA) requires a Besondere Fachprüfung with fachtheoretischem and fachpraktischem Teil (1:1 weighting). BY Abitur Musik eA: Suggested Study Strategy
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the official Bavarian Musik Abitur a multiple-choice test?
No. Musik eA is a Besondere Fachprüfung: constructed-response Fachtheorie with Notentexte and Hörbeispiele (choose 1 of 3 tasks) plus a practical Fachpraxis Vortrag. This bank is an English MCQ study adaptation for concepts only.
Does this exam include a practical performance part?
Yes. Official Musik eA always includes Fachpraxis (~30 minutes: Pflichtstück, Wahlstück, Vom-Blatt) weighted 1:1 with Fachtheorie. This OpenExamPrep bank does NOT test live performance—only theory, analysis, history/styles, listening-judgment concepts and notation.
How long is the Fachtheorie part?
Per the ISB Übersichtsblatt: 210 minutes working time plus about 30 minutes Hörzeit. GSO Anlage 8 states 210 Minuten ohne Hörzeit for Musik. In 2026, written eA 'weitere' subjects sat on 13.05.2026; practical Musik began no earlier than 09.03.2026 (KM Bayern).
Is there a written gA Musik Abitur sibling?
No. Written Musik with Besondere Fachprüfung is possible only as Leistungsfach eA. On gA, Musik can be a Kolloquium (oral) Prüfungsfach but not a written Abiturfach (ISB Übersicht).
Which topics does LehrplanPLUS cover in the Q-phase?
Jgst. 12/1 Western vocal music; 12/2 Musik und Tradition and Musik und Technik; 13/1 Western instrumental music; 13/2 selected music since 1900 (eA depth includes Gregorianik–Romantik for vocal music and at least four 20th-century Strömungen).
What are the Literaturlisten for?
ISB publishes repertoire lists for each approved instrument and Gesang defining the expected entry level for Leistungsfach Musik. They support the practical strand; this MCQ bank does not replace repertoire preparation.
How does the subject count toward passing the Abitur?
Theory and practice convert to Notenpunkte and combine 1:1. Overall, coursework (Block I) counts up to 600 and the exam block (Block II) up to 300 of 900 points; the Allgemeine Hochschulreife requires at least 300 points total (KM Bayern).
