Escuela de Carabineros Study Tips from Top Performers
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Escuela de Carabineros and ESFOCAR?
The Escuela de Carabineros del General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo trains commissioned officers (Aspirantes a Oficial, commissioned as Subteniente after eight semesters); its admission requires PAES scores and includes the institutional A1 English paper. ESFOCAR, the Escuela de Formación de Carabineros 'Alguacil Mayor Juan Gómez de Almagro', trains Carabineros de Orden y Seguridad through a separate, free, year-round intake with no PAES and no English test. This bank covers the officer school only.
What are the eligibility requirements for the Escuela de Carabineros officer admission?
Applicants must be Chilean, single, with military situation in order (men), have a valid cédula de identidad, be taking or have passed 4º medio, meet the minimum barefoot heights of 1,60 m for men and 1,50 m for women, have no tattoos visible in uniform (Orden General N° 3.342 of 01.12.2025), and have sat the PAES in Matemática 1 and Comprensión Lectora within the last two years. The Bases print an age range of 18 to 30 at 1 February of the entry year; Decreto N° 88 of 17 June 2026 amended the Reglamento Orgánico so applicants who are 17 at the date of incorporation may now enter, with notarised parental authorisation.
What is evaluated in the institutional Prueba de Inglés, and how long is it?
The Bases describe it only as a basic-level (A1) evaluation sat in person at the Escuela de Carabineros and worth 5% of the weighted score. The school publishes a Temario Prueba de Inglés so candidates can prepare, but it publishes no item count, no duration and no pass mark for the paper. Treat any specific figure you see elsewhere as unverified.
How does this practice bank relate to the real admission process?
The real process is conducted in Spanish and is a mixed multi-stage assessment: an online psycholaboral test, physical capacity events, interviews, a complementary psychological evaluation, medical and dental screening, PAES scores, and the presencial English paper. This 100-question bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation aligned to the published CEFR A1 scope. It is not an official translation, not a format simulation, and cannot substitute for the physical, interview, psycholaboral or medical stages. PAES content is not rehearsed here: the PAES is a separate national DEMRE exam.
