About the CAP-PL ENS Exam
The Concours Direct CAP-PL (Certificat d'Aptitude Pédagogique pour le Lycée) is the premier national competitive examination for the recruitment and pedagogical certification of upper-secondary school teachers (Professeurs de Lycée) in Côte d'Ivoire. Administered by the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) d'Abidjan under the MESRS, the competition requires a Licence in the discipline together with a Master in one of that discipline's specialties. The 2026 session opened nine disciplines: Allemand, Anglais, Espagnol, Histoire-Géographie, Lettres Modernes, Mathématiques, Philosophie, Physique-Chimie, and Sciences de la Vie et de la Terre. For Mathématiques and Physique-Chimie a Maîtrise is accepted in place of the Master. Admitted candidates complete two years of pedagogical training at ENS Abidjan before teaching in lycées (2nde, 1ère, Terminale) and preparing pupils for the Ivorian Baccalauréat. In 2026, 2,998 candidates competed for 1,275 budgeted posts. Certified teachers enter the civil service at Grade A4. The official exam is administered in French.
