About the ENEM Exam
The Exame Nacional do Ensino Medio (ENEM) is Brazil's national high-school exit and university-admission exam, administered by INEP under the Ministry of Education. The full exam has 180 multiple-choice questions split evenly across four areas of knowledge (45 each): Linguagens e Codigos, Ciencias Humanas, Ciencias da Natureza, and Matematica, plus a dissertative-argumentative essay (redacao). It is applied over two consecutive Sundays and the objective questions are scored using Item Response Theory (TRI), while the essay is graded 0-1000 across five competencies. ENEM scores are the main gateway to higher education through SISU (public universities), ProUni (private-university scholarships), and FIES (student financing). Is there a passing score for ENEM?
ENEM has no single pass mark. Universities and programs set their own cutoffs through SISU, ProUni, and FIES, so competitive courses may require area scores well above 700-800.
How much does ENEM cost?
