1A 55-year-old man has newly diagnosed uncomplicated hypertension and no compelling indication for a particular drug class. Which drug classes are considered first-line?
A.ACE inhibitors, ARBs, calcium channel blockers and thiazide or thiazide-like diuretics
B.Beta blockers, as the default starting class for all patients
C.Alpha blockers, because they lower peripheral resistance most directly
D.Loop diuretics, because they are the most potent diuretics available
Explanation: Four classes share first-line status in uncomplicated hypertension: ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, calcium channel blockers and thiazide or thiazide-like diuretics. Current European guidance also favours starting most patients on a single-pill combination of two of these rather than titrating one drug, because combination therapy reaches target faster and with fewer dose-related side effects.
2Which of the following is true regarding the Österreichischer Impfplan for the MMR vaccine?
A.Given as a single dose
B.Administered via two doses
C.Only recommended for girls
D.Live attenuated vaccine not given in Austria

A.Non-opioids (NSAIDs)

A.Ibuprofen 600mg
B.Morphine sulfate (MST)
C.Amoxicillin
D.Pantoprazole
Explanation: The Suchtgiftverordnung, issued under the Suchtmittelgesetz (SMG), requires a serialised Suchtgiftvignette on prescriptions for Suchtgifte such as morphine, together with the quantity stated in both figures and words. Psychotropic substances fall under the separate Psychotropenverordnung and do not carry the vignette. Note the abbreviations: SMG is the Act, SV the Suchtgiftverordnung.
6A patient with COPD presents with an acute exacerbation. What is a key primary care intervention?
A.Immediate intubation
B.Short-acting bronchodilators and systemic corticosteroids
C.Long-term oxygen therapy for all

A.First words

C.Riding a tricycle
D.Complete bowel control

The programme was renamed from Mutter-Kind-Pass to Eltern-Kind-Pass with effect from 1 January 2024 under the Eltern-Kind-Pass-Gesetz 2023; existing Mutter-Kind-Pässe remain valid.
8In elderly patients, polypharmacy is a major concern. Which class of drugs is most strongly associated with falls?

About the Facharzt Allgemeinmedizin Exam

The fachärztliche Prüfung im Sonderfach Allgemeinmedizin und Familienmedizin is the specialist examination for the new Austrian Sonderfach created by the Ärztegesetz-Novelle 2023, governed by the ÄAO 2015 and by the Prüfungsordnung 2026 of the Österreichische Ärztekammer and conducted by the Österreichische Akademie der Ärzte. Training in the Sonderfach could first begin on 1 June 2026 and the examination became available on the same date; it can also be taken by registered Ärztinnen und Ärzte für Allgemeinmedizin who want the specialist title but cannot show the required two years of professional experience. PO 2026 fixes admission at 42 creditable training months, reports results only as bestanden or nicht bestanden, and caps attempts at five. The separate Prüfung zur Ärztin/zum Arzt für Allgemeinmedizin (Arztprüfung) still runs alongside it during the transition and draws on the same body of general-practice knowledge, so this bank serves candidates for either route. It is an English-language multiple-choice study adaptation of a German-language examination and does not simulate the official format.

Assessment

Governed by the Prüfungsordnung 2026 (PO 2026) of the Österreichische Ärztekammer, 4. Abschnitt (§§ 23–26), and conducted by the Österreichische Akademie der Ärzte. § 24 PO 2026 permits three method families: written Wahlantwortverfahren (MC) or Kurzantwortfragen (KAF); oral structured examination (SMP) or structured observation (SB); or a combination. The method actually applied is fixed in the fachspezifische Prüfungsrichtlinien. Admission under § 25 requires at least 42 creditable training months at registration, and no later than two months before the exam date. § 11 PO 2026 caps candidates at five attempts, the fifth being a kommissionelle Prüfung taken as a structured oral examination before three examiners. The examination first became available on 1 June 2026.

Time Limit

Not published by the Österreichische Ärztekammer

Passing Score

Pass/fail only (§ 9 Abs. 2 PO 2026). The Bestehensgrenze is set for each sitting by the fachspezifische Prüfungsausschuss as a percentage of the attainable points, geared to 90 per cent of the mean score of that sitting's candidates; the ÖÄK explanatory notes place it generally between 55 and 75 per cent, and it may never fall below 51 per cent.
