About the AP French Language and Culture Exam
AP French assesses French communication and cultural understanding. The redesigned May 2027 exam uses Bluebook and requires advance research for its speaking project.

When does the new AP French format start?
It starts with the May 2027 exam, following the course revisions effective in fall 2026. Earlier papers use the old format.
What should I prepare before the exam?
Complete the research project for the topic released in January. Submit the Personalized Project Reference through the AP Digital Portfolio by April 30, 2027, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern.
When is the 2027 AP French exam?
College Board lists May 6, 2027, Session 1. Confirm the local start time and registration details with your AP coordinator.
Can old practice papers still help?
They can support language skills. Their 65-question format, email reply, simulated conversation and cultural comparison are not the current exam structure.
