About the PRC ALE Exam

The PRC Architect Licensure Examination (ALE) is the national board examination required to become a registered and licensed architect in the Philippines under Republic Act No. 9266, the Architecture Act of 2004. Administered by the Professional Regulatory Board of Architecture (PRBoA) under the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), it is an objective written examination organized into three major subjects: (1) History & Theory of Architecture, Principles of Planning & Architectural Practice; (2) Structural Design, Building Materials & Methods of Construction, and Utilities; and (3) Architectural Design and Site Planning. The exam tests Philippine laws and codes such as RA 9266, PD 1096 (National Building Code), and BP 344 (Accessibility Law), along with tropical climate-responsive design and Filipino architectural heritage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the PRC ALE vocabulary game free?

Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.

How does the PRC ALE vocabulary game work?

Each round shows a clue for one of 20 PRC ALE terms. Guess the term in six tries: green means the right letter in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the term but in another spot, and gray means it is not in the term. After the round, read the explanation and play the next term.

Where do the PRC ALE terms come from?

OpenExamPrep researched each term from the Professional Regulatory Board of Architecture (PRBoA) under the PRC content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.

What is the passing score for the PRC Architect Licensure Examination?

To pass the PRC Architect Licensure Examination (ALE), a candidate must obtain a general weighted average of at least 70% across the three major board subjects, with no individual subject rating falling below 50%. A subject rated below 50% means the candidate does not pass, regardless of the overall average. The PRBoA computes the weighted average using the official subject weightings, so candidates must perform consistently across History & Theory/Practice, Structural/Materials/Utilities, and Architectural Design & Site Planning rather than relying on strength in only one area.

What subjects are covered in the architecture board exam?

The ALE is organized into three major subjects: (1) History & Theory of Architecture, Principles of Planning & Architectural Practice (about 30%), which covers architectural history, Filipino architecture, RA 9266, the UAP Standards of Professional Practice, ethics, and contracts; (2) Structural Design, Building Materials & Methods of Construction, and Utilities (about 30%), covering structural systems, materials, construction methods, building utilities, PD 1096, and BP 344; and (3) Architectural Design and Site Planning (about 40%), covering site analysis, programming, climate-responsive design, zoning, and design problem-solving. Many candidates find the Architectural Design subject the most demanding because it combines technical knowledge with creative problem-solving.
