Operators must hold a certificate at least equal to the classification of the facility or system where they have direct responsible charge.
How often must ND operator certificates be renewed?
ND operator certificates are valid for a maximum of one year and expire on January 1 (the April 1, 2026 rule change moved the date from July 1, so the July 2026 renewal moved to January 2027). Renewal requires twelve continuing education credits (CECs) earned within the current three-year period and the annual renewal fee. Each NDDEQ training session attended earns 12 CECs.
