About the Montana Permit Test Exam

The Montana driver license knowledge test is the written exam new drivers must pass to earn a learner license from the Montana Motor Vehicle Division (MVD). The MVD does not publish the number of questions or the passing score. Every question is drawn from the official Montana Driver Manual and covers road signs, traffic signals, rules of the road, Montana speed limits, sharing the road, impaired driving, and safe-driving practices. Applicants must also pass a vision screening, and the test is the first step in Montana's Graduated Driver Licensing program for drivers under 18.
