About the ISO 9001 LA Exam

PECB ISO 9001 Lead Auditor is a certification for professionals who lead and conduct first-, second-, and third-party audits of Quality Management Systems against ISO 9001, whose 2026 edition was published on September 16, 2026 (certificates to ISO 9001:2015 have until September 30, 2029 to transition). The program combines ISO 9001 requirements (Clauses 4-10, 7 quality management principles, risk-based thinking) with ISO 19011 audit guidance and ISO/IEC 17021-1 certification body rules. Lead Auditors plan audit programmes, manage audit teams, gather objective evidence, classify nonconformities, write audit reports, and verify corrective actions.

How do the ISO 9001 LA vocabulary games work?

There are 4 games built on 20 ISO 9001 LA terms. In Guess the Term, a clue describes one term and you have six tries to spell it, with green, yellow and gray letters showing how close you are. In Term Match, six terms appear as colored tiles; swap neighbors to line up three or more of the same term, and each match shows what the term means. In Term Pairs, twelve face-down cards hide six pairs of terms; flip two at a time to find each pair, and every pair you find shows what the term means. In Term Search, five terms hide in a grid of letters, reading across, down or diagonally; drag across a term to circle it, and each term you find shows what it means.

Where do the ISO 9001 LA terms come from?

OpenExamPrep researched each term from the PECB content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.

How hard is the ISO 9001 Lead Auditor exam?

The exam is rated intermediate-to-advanced. Many candidates attend PECB's five-day course (four days of training and the exam on day 5), though the exam can also be taken without the course.
