About the ISO 31000 RM Exam

The PECB Certified ISO 31000 Risk Manager certification validates your ability to support an organization in establishing and managing a risk management process based on ISO 31000. The exam covers the 8 ISO 31000 principles, the 6-component framework (Leadership and commitment, Integration, Design, Implementation, Evaluation, Improvement), and the full risk management process. Because ISO 31000 is guidance and not a management system standard, organizations themselves are not certifiable against it — but individuals can validate their risk management competence through this PECB credential.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the ISO 31000 RM vocabulary game free?

Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.

How do the ISO 31000 RM vocabulary games work?

There are 4 games built on 20 ISO 31000 RM terms. In Guess the Term, a clue describes one term and you have six tries to spell it, with green, yellow and gray letters showing how close you are. In Term Match, six terms appear as colored tiles; swap neighbors to line up three or more of the same term, and each match shows what the term means. In Term Pairs, twelve face-down cards hide six pairs of terms; flip two at a time to find each pair, and every pair you find shows what the term means. In Term Search, five terms hide in a grid of letters, reading across, down or diagonally; drag across a term to circle it, and each term you find shows what it means.

Where do the ISO 31000 RM terms come from?

OpenExamPrep researched each term from the PECB content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.

What is the ISO 31000 Risk Manager exam format?

The PECB ISO 31000 Risk Manager exam has 60 multiple-choice questions, each with three options, and a 2-hour time limit. A 70% score is required to pass. It is open book: candidates may use a hard copy of ISO 31000, the training course materials and their own course notes. It is taken online through the PECB Exams app or on paper through a PECB partner, and covers three competency domains: principles and concepts, the risk management framework, and the risk management process.

Can an organization be certified to ISO 31000?

No. ISO 31000:2018 is a guidance standard, not a management system standard. Organizations cannot obtain ISO 31000 certification themselves. However, individuals can validate their risk management knowledge and skills against ISO 31000 through PECB credentials such as Foundation, Risk Manager, and Lead Risk Manager. ISO 31000 informs other certifiable standards (e.g., ISO 27001, ISO 22301) by providing the underlying risk methodology.
