About the CPA Exam
The CPA exam uses the CPA Evolution model (2024+). Candidates pass 3 core sections (AUD, FAR, REG) plus 1 discipline (BAR, ISC, or TCP), each 4 hours with MCQs and task-based simulations weighted 50/50 (ISC 60/40). Each board sets the window for passing all 4 sections; NASBA recommends a rolling 30 months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the CPA vocabulary game free?
Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.
How does the CPA vocabulary game work?
Each round shows a clue for one of 20 CPA terms. Guess the term in six tries: green means the right letter in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the term but in another spot, and gray means it is not in the term. After the round, read the explanation and play the next term.
Where do the CPA terms come from?
OpenExamPrep researched each term from the AICPA / NASBA / Prometric content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.
What is the CPA exam pass rate?
CPA exam pass rates vary by section. Using AICPA's cumulative figures for the first two quarters of 2026: FAR is the hardest at ~43%, AUD is ~49%, and REG is ~67%. For the discipline sections, TCP is highest at ~80%, ISC is ~67%, and BAR is ~44%. AICPA reports rates per section under the CPA Evolution model and does not publish a single overall pass rate.
How did the CPA Evolution change the exam?
Effective January 2024, the CPA exam replaced BEC with three discipline options: BAR (Business Analysis & Reporting), ISC (Information Systems & Controls), and TCP (Tax Compliance & Planning). Candidates choose one discipline to pair with the three core sections (AUD, FAR, REG). Technology skills are now tested across all sections.
