During a Branch 2 inspection, why should the customer interview come before choosing a treatment?

Frequently Asked Questions
Which California Branch 2 exam does this flashcard set cover?
This set covers the Branch 2 Field Representative examination. It does not cover the entry-level Applicator exam or the Branch 2 Operator exam. A field representative may inspect, identify infestations, apply pesticides, and secure or bid work on behalf of a registered company; an operator may also own a company or act as its qualifying manager.
What work is included in California Structural Pest Control Branch 2?
Branch 2 is general pest control involving household pests, excluding fumigation with poisonous or lethal gases. Branch 1 covers that fumigation work, while Branch 3 covers wood-destroying pests or organisms through insecticides, structural repairs, and corrections other than lethal-gas fumigation.
What is the current Branch 2 Field Representative exam format?
The current form delivers 140 questions: 125 scored questions and 15 unscored pretest questions. Candidates have 2.5 hours. California law currently sets the passing standard at 70%; the Board discussed a future criterion-referenced method, but did not adopt that scoring change.
How is the Branch 2 Field Representative exam blueprint weighted?
The 2025 official outline has five areas: Inspection, Monitoring, and Identification 25%; Treatment Planning, Equipment Selection, Calibration, and Usage 22%; Treatment Area Preparation, Consumer Notification, Application, and Maintenance 23%; Environmental Protection and Safety Procedures 15%; and Personal Protection and Safety Measures 15%. These 50 cards use whole-card targets of 13, 11, 12, 7, and 7 respectively, a 26/22/24/14/14 split created by rounding tied half-card remainders in outline order.
What training is required for a California Branch 2 Field Representative license?
Applicants must be at least 18. For licensure, the Board requires proof of at least 40 hours of training and experience in pesticide application, Branch 2 pest identification and biology, application equipment, hazards, safety, integrated pest management, and water-quality impacts. At least 20 hours must be actual field work under the immediate supervision of a Branch 2 operator or field representative, unless the Board accepts equivalent experience.
Does a Branch 2 Field Representative need company sponsorship?
Not in the testing-vendor sense. The practical dependency is that the required training and experience are certified by a qualifying manager, and a licensed field representative may perform work only while working for a registered structural pest control company. A field representative cannot contract or perform pest-control work on their own behalf.
What happens after a failed or missed Branch 2 Field Representative exam?
A candidate who fails or does not appear must submit a re-examination application and wait 30 days from the last scheduled examination date before becoming eligible again. The Board publishes the same 30-day rule rather than a longer special wait after a third failure. Exam approval is valid for six months.
What is the Branch 2 Field Representative exam pass rate?
Neither the California Structural Pest Control Board nor PSI publishes a current pass rate for this specific examination. Treat any unsourced percentage as an estimate. The known statutory passing standard is 70%.
