What does Article 12 of Federal Law 37 of 2006 limit private security to?

Preventive security protection. Private security companies do not take over law-enforcement officers’ tasks. A uniform does not confer police investigation, interrogation or general search powers.

Does an Abu Dhabi BSG certificate automatically authorise work in Dubai?

No. NSI identifies its BSG audience as Abu Dhabi and the Western Region. Dubai has SIRA security-personnel licensing. Confirm the competent authority and required licence for the actual emirate and assignment.

How does a course certificate differ from a security licence?

NSI certifies completion of its training and assessments; the competent authority controls permission to work. NSI’s published two-year course validity is not proof that every licence or assignment has identical renewal conditions.

What assessment components does NSI publish for BSG?

Unless authorities specify otherwise: written 40%, language 20%, practical 20%, notebook 10%, deportment 10%; physical SOPAT and self-defence tests are also listed. These are course assessment components, not licensing-exam topic weights.

What does NSI’s 70% statement apply to?

Its BSG page gives 70% pass marks for the written assessment and describes 70% overall as passing, subject to authority directions. It does not publish a universal licensing question count, test duration or current retake waiting period.

What are NSI’s published BSG entry requirements?

The course page lists age 21–55, high-school education or equivalent, two years’ police/security/armed-forces experience, fitness, and minimum height 160 cm for men or 150 cm for women. It accepts both English and Arabic or at least either; confirm authority requirements when applying.

What is the safe rule about carrying weapons on duty?

Do not carry or use a weapon merely because you are a guard. Current Article 16 permits authorised security personnel to carry approved weapons only with the required authority approvals, licences and regulatory controls; an absolute nationwide firearms ban is inaccurate.

What should a guard do when a visitor refuses an entry search?

Explain the authorised entry condition and refer or deny access under site procedure without forcing a search. Mere refusal is not a reason to punish, interrogate or detain someone. Call police for a genuine crime or immediate danger.

What should take priority during an armed robbery?

Protect life. Avoid sudden moves or confrontation; comply where necessary for safety. Observe only what can be observed safely, raise an alarm only when safe, and preserve the scene after the threat has left.

How do deterrence, detection, delay and denial work together?

Visible guarding can deter; an alarm detects; a barrier delays; controlled entry denies unauthorised access. No single measure guarantees prevention. Choose layers to match the site’s actual risks.

What belongs in a shift handover?

Outstanding incidents, current threats, visitors or contractors still present, key/equipment status and faults, and actions awaiting completion. Use the site handover record and verify critical information with the relieving guard.

How should a guard use post orders?

Read the current authorised instructions for that post and clarify conflicts before acting. Follow lawful duties, escalation routes and emergency plans; record significant departures or instructions rather than inventing personal rules.

What should a patrol do when it finds an exposed live cable?

Keep people away, notify control and the authorised maintenance team, and record the hazard. Do not touch, move or test it unless specifically competent and authorised. Guarding a hazard does not replace electrical isolation.

What is the purpose of a lone-worker check-in?

To make a missed contact an actionable signal. Confirm the route, communication method, expected contacts and escalation response before patrol; report a failed radio or changed risk rather than proceeding unobserved.

How should suspicious behaviour be assessed?

Describe observable actions, location and context, then compare them with the site’s normal activity. Avoid treating nationality, appearance or ordinary clothing as proof of intent. Seek verification and support without unsafe confrontation.

What makes a hospital-security response different?

Protect patients and clinical work, preserve privacy and follow the clinical team’s direction for care-related incidents. Avoid obstructing emergency access or assuming security staff can make clinical or restraint decisions.

What is the guard’s role during crowd pressure at an event?

Report crowd density and blocked routes early, keep emergency routes available, and implement the event’s authorised crowd-management plan. Do not simply push people back into a compressed crowd or close an exit to improve ticket control.

What should a museum guard report besides attempted theft?

Damage, unauthorised touching, environmental or alarm faults and unsafe crowding near exhibits. Protect the area and notify the responsible staff; do not clean, repair or move an object without authorisation.

How does access control protect critical infrastructure?

Verify authorisation for the specific zone and task, including contractors and deliveries. Challenge discrepancies through the approved process and report damaged controls; a familiar face or generic visitor badge is not permission for every zone.

What is essential before a cash-in-transit assignment?

The correct licensed role, specialist training, approved team instructions and communication arrangements. Basic guarding training alone does not authorise every cash-transport operation. Respond to vehicle emergencies according to life safety and the approved plan.

How should a guard respond to an unusual bank transaction?

Report the observed security concern through the bank’s designated channel, preserve relevant details and avoid accusing the customer or disclosing confidential information. Transaction decisions and investigations belong to authorised staff.

What should a guard know at a port, airport or border facility?

The site’s restricted zones, credential checks, escort requirements and reporting chain. Security access permission is not immigration or customs authority; refer matters outside the assigned role to the responsible officials.

What supports combustion in the fire triangle?

Fuel, heat and oxygen. The fire tetrahedron also includes the sustaining chemical chain reaction. Fire-control methods act on these factors, but a guard should not infer a safe oxygen concentration or enter an oxygen-deficient space.

What comes first when discovering a fire?

Raise the alarm, call Civil Defence on 997 and follow the evacuation plan. Help others without entering danger. Attempt only a small fire if trained, with a suitable extinguisher and a clear escape route; withdraw if conditions worsen.

How should an extinguisher be selected?

Read its rating and instructions for the actual fuel and electrical hazard. Colour conventions and class letters vary between systems. Do not use water on energised electrical equipment or burning cooking oil.

What does PASS remind a trained extinguisher user to do?

Pull the pin, aim at the base, squeeze and sweep. Follow the extinguisher’s operating distance and instructions, keep an escape route and stop if the fire grows or smoke threatens. The acronym is not permission to fight any fire.

What is the safe response to a blocked evacuation route?

Use the plan’s alternative safe route and tell control. Do not force people into smoke or return for belongings. Help people requiring assistance using the agreed plan and trained support; report anyone missing to responders.

When may people re-enter after a fire evacuation?

After police or Civil Defence declare it safe and the site’s re-entry arrangements are implemented. Alarm silence or the absence of visible smoke alone is not an all-clear.

What should a guard do about a suspected gas leak?

Move people away from the affected area, avoid flames and operating electrical switches there, and call the emergency service from safety. Do not enter to find the leak or operate equipment without appropriate training and authorisation.

What should happen after finding a suspicious package?

Do not touch, open or move it. Move people away, prevent approach and notify police from a safe location using the emergency plan. Let responders determine exclusion distances; a memorised distance is not a universal guarantee of safety.

What should be recorded during a telephone threat?

The caller’s exact words, time, claimed location and nature of the threat, plus audible details if safely available. Alert the designated response team and preserve the record; do not make an independent search that exposes people to danger.

How should a fire-alarm panel fault be handled?

Notify the designated responsible person and follow the authorised fault-response process. Record the affected zone and compensating measures. Do not silence, reset or disable the system merely to remove an inconvenient warning.

When should adult CPR begin?

After checking scene safety, if an adult is unresponsive and not breathing normally or is only gasping, call 998 or send someone to call and fetch an AED. Start compressions promptly; follow dispatcher instructions and current training.

What are the core adult CPR compression targets?

Compress the centre of the chest at 100–120/min, about 5–6 cm deep, allowing full recoil. If trained and able, use 30 compressions to 2 breaths; otherwise provide continuous compressions under dispatcher guidance. Use the AED as soon as available.

How should life-threatening external bleeding be controlled?

Call 998, use protection if available and apply firm direct pressure at the bleeding source. A trained rescuer can use a tourniquet for life-threatening limb bleeding. Do not remove an embedded object or repeatedly lift the first dressing to look.

What should a trained rescuer do for a conscious adult with severe choking?

When the adult cannot speak, breathe or cough effectively, summon help and alternate 5 back blows with 5 abdominal thrusts. Use chest thrusts for pregnancy or when unable to encircle the abdomen. If unresponsive, start CPR; never perform blind finger sweeps.

Why is confusion during heat exposure an emergency?

It can signal heatstroke even before a temperature is measured. Call 998, move to a cooler place and start rapid cooling while awaiting help. Do not give oral fluids to a confused or unconscious person; maintain airway safety.

How does a heat-stress plan protect a guard on outdoor duty?

Provide appropriate work/rest arrangements, accessible drinking water, cooling or shade, acclimatisation and monitoring. Report symptoms early. A legal midday-work restriction does not make other hours safe or replace the employer’s risk assessment.

What must be checked before granting access?

Match identity, valid permission, visit purpose and the specific destination against the site’s approved process. Verify discrepancies with the host or control; possession of a badge alone is insufficient if its access has expired or been revoked.

How should visitor information be recorded?

Record only the information authorised and needed for access, emergency accountability and the applicable retention policy. Keep logs secure and limit disclosure; do not photograph or circulate identity documents on a personal phone.

How should a permitted bag search be carried out?

Explain the procedure, obtain the required cooperation and follow training and privacy arrangements. Ask the owner to present contents where appropriate. Stop and isolate a dangerous or suspicious find rather than handling it to complete the search.

What is a safe prerequisite for a vehicle search?

Use an authorised search area with traffic controlled and the driver following instructions. Follow trained methods for the vehicle and equipment; do not reach into hidden spaces, crawl under an unsafe vehicle or open hot machinery without controls.

What should happen if a controlled key is missing?

Notify control immediately, identify the affected doors or assets, check the issue record and implement the authorised security response. Do not quietly replace the key or assume a duplicate removes the exposure.

How do fail-safe and fail-secure access locks differ?

Fail-safe releases on loss of its operating power; fail-secure remains secure on the controlled side. Neither label alone describes emergency egress, fire-alarm integration or every door function. Verify the approved installation and escape arrangements.

What should a CCTV operator do when a camera fails?

Record the camera, time and affected view; report the fault and arrange authorised compensating observation. Check whether recording is also affected. Do not assume a moving image elsewhere means the entire system is working.

What preserves CCTV evidence integrity?

Protect the original recording from overwrite, use authorised export procedures and document who handled the material and when. Preserve timestamps and relevant context. Do not substitute a personal-phone recording or edit the evidence to strengthen a theory.

What makes a useful radio message?

Identify who is calling whom, give the location and concise facts, state the assistance needed and confirm critical information. Use the site’s radio procedure; keep personal or confidential details off open channels where possible.

How should a notebook error be corrected?

Keep the original entry readable, make a single-line correction and identify the correction according to procedure. Record times and observations promptly; never erase, invent a retrospective observation or alter a record to conceal an incident.

How should an incident report distinguish fact from inference?

State what you directly saw or heard, attribute information from other people, and label uncertainty. Include who, what, when, where, actions and notifications. Do not turn a guessed motive into a witnessed fact.

Which UAE emergency numbers should a guard know?

999 police, 998 ambulance and 997 Civil Defence/fire. State the exact location, hazard, casualties and safe access route, and follow dispatcher instructions. A supervisor notification does not replace urgent emergency contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the Dubai SIRA exam?

No. This resource follows the NSI BSG course identified for Abu Dhabi and the Western Region. PSBD is retained as a legacy search term. Dubai SIRA licensing is separate; confirm the authority and course for the actual work location.

How is the NSI BSG course assessed?

NSI lists written 40%, language 20%, practical 20%, notebook 10% and deportment 10%, plus physical SOPAT and self-defence assessments. The page specifies 70% written pass marks and 70% overall, unless authorities specify otherwise.

How many questions and minutes are in the licensing test?

The current NSI BSG page does not publish one universal licensing-test item count or time limit. Its course-assessment table cannot establish a 60–90-minute computer test. Follow the current assessment notice supplied for your course.

What entry conditions does NSI list?

High-school education or equivalent, two years of relevant police/security/armed-forces experience, age 21–55, fitness, minimum height 160 cm for men or 150 cm for women, and both English and Arabic or at least either. Authority approval and supporting documents still matter.

Does two-year BSG course validity mean the licence is renewed automatically?

No. NSI lists two-year course validity and offers a separate renewal course. Course certification and permission to work are distinct; the competent authority must confirm licence expiry, renewal documents and any reassessment requirements.

Are old retake limits and penalty tables safe to memorise as current?

Use the current authority instructions and consolidated legislation. Older 2008 material is historical, and later changes affect the framework. These cards do not assert unverified current permanent-bar, fixed renewal-grace or fine-table rules.

Can flashcards replace first-aid or specialist security training?

No. They support recall of decisions and boundaries. CPR, first aid, searches, fire response and cash-in-transit duties require the relevant practical training, authorisation and site procedures.
