Success on the ParaPro Assessment requires both content knowledge and effective test-taking strategies. These techniques will help you maximize your score.

Time Management

Time Management Tips:

• Don't spend more than 2 minutes on any question
• Flag difficult questions and return to them
• Keep track of time every 15-20 questions
• Leave time to review flagged questions

Before the Test

Night Before:

• Get 7-8 hours of sleep
• Prepare identification and materials
• Review test center location and parking
• Do a light review—don't cram

Test Day Morning:

• Eat a balanced breakfast
• Arrive 15-30 minutes early
• Use the restroom before starting
• Stay calm and confident

General Test-Taking Strategies

Read Questions Carefully:

• Read the entire question before looking at answers
• Identify exactly what is being asked
• Watch for key words (NOT, EXCEPT, BEST, ALWAYS, NEVER)

Process of Elimination:

• Eliminate obviously wrong answers first
• Often you can eliminate 2 answers quickly
• Choose from remaining options

Answer Every Question:

• No penalty for wrong answers
• Never leave a question blank
• If unsure, make an educated guess

Watch for Qualifiers:

Reading Section:

• Skim the passage first for main idea
• Read questions before detailed reading
• Refer back to the passage for evidence
• Don't rely on outside knowledge—use the text

Mathematics Section:

• Write out your work step-by-step
• Check your calculations
• Estimate first to check reasonableness
• Draw pictures for geometry problems

Writing Section:

• Read the entire sentence/paragraph
• Trust your ear—if it sounds wrong, it probably is
• Know the rules, not just what "looks right"
• Check for subject-verb agreement first

Handling Difficult Questions
