Trinidad & Tobago Fire Service Entrance Exam 2026: Official Recruitment Steps and Safe Prep

Status checked July 28, 2026. This guide follows the official 2025 advertisement, TTFS's July 24–25 written-examination notices, and current SCD pages. It does not claim access to candidate-only letters or a confidential paper.

The clearest current answer is this: the October 2025 Firefighter Grade 1 application window is closed, and TTFS says successfully screened applicants were emailed written-examination information. The public SCD exam-date page still shows no Firefighter Grade 1 date, so each candidate's letter—not an unofficial website—controls the sitting details.

The official TTFS recruitment advertisement says qualified applicants must write an entrance examination set and managed by the Public Service Commission. Successful candidates are placed in order of merit, and only those selected move to the physical aptitude stage. This is more precise than the common description that everyone who reaches a fixed percentage automatically advances.

Current status of the 2025–26 recruitment intake

The application window ran from October 13 through October 30, 2025 on EmployTT. The advertisement was specifically for screening male candidates for Firefighter Grade 1. That wording describes this intake; it should not be converted into a permanent statement about every future TTFS recruitment exercise.

The Service Commissions Department's current latest-news page lists Firefighter Grade 1 applicant lists and document-verification notices. Those notices scheduled verification in March 2026, followed by a final Trinidad verification on May 28 and Tobago verification on May 29 for named candidates. They required candidates to appear at the stated place and time with original documents.

TTFS then announced a newer stage. Its July 24 notice says successfully screened Grade I applicants were emailed important written-examination information. A July 25 follow-up instructs applicants who did not receive it to email scdexamsunit@gov.tt, request a copy of the examination letter, provide their name, and attach identification. These notices confirm that candidate instructions were issued; they do not publish one public date, venue, format or syllabus.

As of July 28, the SCD interview-and-exam-dates page still does not list a Firefighter Grade 1 entrance-exam date. That is not evidence that the examination is unscheduled: TTFS says candidate information was emailed. Each applicant's official letter controls the date, venue and sitting instructions.

Eligibility applied before the examination

For this intake, the advertisement required an applicant to be:

• a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago;
• not younger than 18 and not older than 35;
• of good character, to be verified later by a Certificate of Character; and
• qualified with three CSEC, CXC or GCE passes, including compulsory English A and two other qualifying subjects.

It also required the stated identity and civil-status evidence. The applicant needed the specified combination of a Trinidad and Tobago national identification card, driver's permit or passport, a computerized birth certificate, and—where a name had changed—supporting evidence such as an affidavit, deed poll, marriage certificate or divorce decree.

The 2026 SCD verification notice sharpened the practical checklist for candidates called to that stage: valid photo identification, original CSEC certificates and an electronic birth certificate. It warned that failure to attend or produce the required originals would cause disqualification. A generic checklist cannot override the document attached to a candidate's own notice.

The Public Service Commission Regulations explain the broader appointment framework. They allow the Commission to advertise a Firefighter vacancy, require qualification verification, and provide for candidates to be notified of the selection place, date and time. The current recruitment advertisement then supplies the intake-specific sequence.

What is officially confirmed about the entrance examination

The official advertisement confirms three important facts:

1. Applicants whose applications meet the requirements must write an entrance examination.
2. The Public Service Commission sets and manages that examination.
3. Successful candidates are listed in order of merit, and selected candidates proceed to physical aptitude testing.

The third fact matters. “Successful” and “selected for the next stage” are not necessarily identical. A merit-ranked process can be competitive even when a candidate satisfies whatever success standard the Commission applies. The public notice does not promise that every successful candidate will receive a physical-test appointment.

The publicly accessible official sources reviewed do not publish:

• a fixed question count;
• a two-hour or other universal duration;
• a multiple-choice or computerised delivery rule;
• a 50 percent or other pass mark;
• four equally weighted subject domains;
• negative-marking rules;
• permitted calculators or other materials;
• a candidate fee;
• an exam-results release period; or
• a public official past-paper PDF.

Those facts may be contained in an individual candidate's letter, but they are not published on sources accessible to every reader. A commercial practice site cannot turn its own 100-question bank into a 100-question official exam. Likewise, a search result for a Trinidad Fire Department in Colorado, a Nigerian federal fire paper, an Indian fire-service paper or a general Firefighter I certification test is not evidence about the Trinidad and Tobago PSC entrance examination.

A safe preparation plan when the public syllabus is absent

Candidates still need a disciplined plan. The key is to label practice as skills preparation, not as a reproduction of an official blueprint.

1. Make English accuracy your anchor

English A was compulsory for eligibility in this intake. Practise short-passage comprehension, grammar, sentence correction, vocabulary in context and following written directions. For every missed question, identify whether the error came from vocabulary, inference, a missed qualifier or rushing.

This is defensible preparation because accurate reading supports any written assessment and the recruitment process itself. It does not prove the PSC assigns English a particular percentage.

2. Refresh basic arithmetic without inventing fireground content

Work on whole-number operations, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, averages and short word problems. Start untimed for accuracy, then use mixed timed sets. Record repeated error types rather than merely counting scores.

Do not assume an entry examination tests pump pressure, hose hydraulics or academy-level fire science. The official pages do not publish those as entrance-exam domains. Advanced firefighting material belongs to a different stage unless the Commission says otherwise.

3. Practise reasoning and careful comparison

Use original sequence, classification, condition, table-reading and rule-application problems. These build transferable examination skills. Do not present abstract, spatial or mechanical reasoning as an official section or attach a made-up 25 percent weight.

A useful review method is to explain why each wrong option fails. That exposes careless assumptions and improves performance even if the final paper packages reasoning differently.

4. Train on official-notice reading

The live process already tests whether candidates can follow instructions: check registered email and spam folders, use the date and venue in the candidate letter, bring required items and follow every sitting instruction. Turn the letter into a checklist with five columns: action, document, place, deadline and consequence.

This is not a predicted exam section. It is protection against an administrative error that could end an application before the examination.

5. Keep a source ledger

For every claimed exam fact, record the exact source, URL and check date. Use this hierarchy:

1. a personal PSC or SCD written-examination letter;
2. official TTFS notices, including the July 24–25 email alerts linked above;
3. the SCD exam-date and latest-news pages;
4. an official Ministry or EmployTT vacancy notice; and
5. practice providers only for clearly labelled original exercises.

The Ministry's TTFS page confirms that the Service operates under the Fire Service Act, Chapter 35:50, and publishes official contact details. Check that page and SCD directly rather than relying on screenshots forwarded in a group chat.

Prepare for the stages after the written exam

The entrance examination is one gate, not the whole selection process. The current advertisement gives this order:

1. qualifying application;
2. PSC entrance examination;
3. successful candidates placed in merit order;
4. selected candidates take the Fire Service School Physical Aptitude Test;
5. successful physical-test candidates attend a TTFS selection interview;
6. successful interview candidates undergo a medical examination by a Government Medical Officer;
7. shortlisted candidates attend training at the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service School; and
8. candidates who complete training and remain fit may be considered for appointment as Firefighter on one year's probation.

Do not substitute the United States CPAT for the TTFS Physical Aptitude Test. The official advertisement does not publish CPAT's event list, loads or time standard. General aerobic conditioning, strength, mobility and recovery can be sensible preparation, but the Fire Service School's eventual instructions define the actual assessment. Increase training gradually and obtain appropriate medical advice where needed.

The wording at the final stage also deserves care. Completing the process makes a candidate eligible to be considered for probationary appointment. It is not an unconditional job guarantee. A candidate who fails the training requirements or is otherwise considered unfit may be discharged from the programme.

Your next-action checklist

If you applied in October 2025:

• check the inbox, spam and junk folders of the email used for EmployTT for written-examination information;
• if no information arrived, email scdexamsunit@gov.tt, request a copy of the examination letter, provide your name and attach identification as TTFS directs;
• use only that official letter for your date, venue and sitting instructions;
• save the notification and verify its sender and linked domains;
• keep the required identification and other documents organized;
• monitor the official TTFS notices and SCD pages for changes;
• prepare broadly without claiming unpublished specifications; and
• build safe general fitness for the later physical stage.

If you did not apply in that window, wait for a new advertisement. The 2025 posting cannot be used to create a late application, and its male-only wording, dates, qualifications or procedure should not automatically be projected onto a future intake. Create an EmployTT profile only through the official platform and verify a new vacancy before uploading personal documents.
