1.2 Pearson VUE Scheduling, Admission and Results

Authorization and scheduling

Applicants do not simply buy an open UDEE appointment. After the Secret Service authorizes testing, Pearson VUE sends account or scheduling information tied to an assigned testing window. Schedule early enough to find a workable center and date. The official preparation guide says scheduling or rescheduling outside the open period is not permitted. Some applicants may test at a military site or another government facility, where a Secret Service representative supplies instructions and the mode may be paper-based. For most candidates, however, the current process uses a Pearson VUE test center.

Pearson's current program page also explains how to request a reasonable accommodation: contact the Uniformed Division support address with the request and supporting documents before scheduling. Accommodation requests are reviewed case by case and must be approved in advance. A candidate who needs an accommodation should follow the authorization email and current program page rather than assuming that ordinary scheduling can be changed afterward.

Admission checklist

Pearson currently instructs candidates to arrive 30 minutes before the appointment. A candidate arriving more than 15 minutes late may be refused admission, treated as a no-show, and removed from the hiring process. Build travel margin around parking, security, and finding the suite; arriving at the building at the scheduled start time is already late for check-in purposes.

The current Pearson rule calls for one current and valid form of personal identification containing both a photograph and a signature. Listed examples include a driver's license, passport book or card, and national, state, or local identification. This is a change from the older official preparation PDF, which described two IDs. The live Pearson page is the more recent administration instruction. Bring the exact ID named in the appointment confirmation and ensure that the name matches the hiring record.

Personal items cannot enter the testing room. Pearson lists bags, backpacks, purses, books, newspapers, notes, phones, tablets, watches, and wallets. Lockers are available; electronic devices must be turned off. Food and drinks are not permitted in the testing room. Do not build a strategy around consulting notes, checking a watch, eating during a section, or accessing a phone.

Changes, cancellations and no-shows

A reschedule or cancellation must be completed at least 48 hours before the appointment. Alternatives are limited to the assigned testing window. Pearson warns that a late change or missed appointment results in removal from consideration and requires reapplication when another vacancy opens. A candidate withdrawing from the position should cancel on time and then notify the Secret Service support branch as directed on the current Pearson page.

There is a real current-source conflict about the waiting period:

• The Pearson UDEE page states six months after a failing score or a no-show.
• The active 2026 USAJOBS Uniformed Division announcement states three months after failure or failure to report before reapplying and retesting.

The vacancy announcement is newer and applies to that specific hiring cycle, so this guide uses three months for the current 2026 announcement. Candidates should still treat their vacancy notice, authorization email, and direct Secret Service instructions as controlling because the public Pearson page has not been updated consistently. This is better than presenting either number as timeless.

Duration and results

The official preparation guide says total testing time, including breaks, will not exceed 3 hours 45 minutes. Pearson's current FAQ describes approximately 3.5 hours. These statements are compatible: one is a maximum envelope and the other an expected duration. Reserve the full window and avoid scheduling a tight obligation immediately afterward.

Pearson says results are provided immediately after completion at the test center. A passing result continues to the next hiring phase; a failing result ends consideration under that attempt. Pearson also states that a passing result remains valid indefinitely unless the exam is compromised or substantially changed. No public official source supplies a numeric passing cutoff, so preparation should focus on consistent performance across the published tasks rather than chasing an invented percentage.

Final test-day check

Confirm the location, arrival time, acceptable ID, appointment-change deadline, and assigned window directly in the confirmation. Save support contact information outside the testing-room locker. If any public page conflicts with the personal authorization, resolve it with the hiring contact before test day.
