Explain at the Level of Understanding

Match vocabulary to the listener. A useful frame is purpose → sensation → cooperation → limits:

  1. Purpose: “We watch the nerves and spinal cord pathways during surgery with recordings from small electrodes so the team gets feedback if signals change.”
  2. Sensation: “You may feel brief tapping or twitching from stimulation after you are asleep; before sleep we mainly place sticky pads or tiny needles.”
