Master health history taking, medication reconciliation, foot and lower extremity anatomy, pain differentiation, vascular examination (pulses, Doppler, ABI/TBI), musculoskeletal range-of-motion and strength testing, monofilament and vibratory neurological screening, and patient-centered care planning — Domain I is 32.5% of the exam (36 scored items).
Prevention, Intervention & Treatment (Domain II)
Study preventive skin care, dermatological conditions, wound classification (Wagner, University of Texas, NPIAP staging), wound bed preparation and debridement, dressing selection, compression, nail pathology and debridement, instrument sterilization, and offloading — Domain II is the largest at 41.7% of the exam (46 scored items).
Education & Referral (Domain III)
Review health literacy assessment, teach-back education on daily foot inspection and footwear, age-related foot changes, risk factor modification, interdisciplinary collaboration, community program access, and specialist referral criteria — Domain III is 25.9% of the exam (28 scored items).
Practice Exams & Final Review
Take timed practice tests under the real 120-item / 120-minute constraint, drill weak blueprint tasks, and review IWGDF risk stratification and ABI-based compression decisions.
Can You Take the CFCN Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •Current RN license
- •Bachelor's degree (or higher)
- •24 CE/CME contact hours specific to foot care (up to 8 may be basic skin and wound care)
- •40 supervised clinical foot care hours (up to 12 may be basic skin and wound care)
- •CWCN, CWON, or CWOCN holders fast-track to 16 foot-specific CE hours and 28 foot-specific clinical hours
- •All CE and clinical hours completed within the previous 5 years while functioning as an RN
- •Application and fee submitted through PSI

Retake Policy
Candidates who do not pass must wait 30 days from the last attempt before retesting and must submit a retake application with the applicable fee; the first retake receives a one-time $100 discount. After three unsuccessful attempts, a new application with full supporting documentation is required following a six-month waiting period.
