Can You Take the CFA L1 Exam?

Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements

Education
Bachelor degree or equivalent, or undergraduate exam window 23 months or fewer before graduation month.
Experience
Alternative path: 4,000 hours of work experience and/or higher education over at least three sequential years by Level I registration date; education and work dates cannot overlap in the combined-hour calculation.
Additional Requirements
  • Comply with CFA Institute Code of Professional Conduct and exam policies
  • Schedule through the Prometric scheduling process after registration
  • Maximum two exam attempts per calendar year, not in consecutive windows or windows six months or less apart
  • Maximum six attempts per exam level
  • To earn the charter later, pass all three exams, complete 4,000 hours of relevant work experience over at least 36 months, become a CFA Institute member, and provide references
