About the USVI NGSS Science Grade 8 Exam
The U.S. Virgin Islands Science Assessment for Grade 8 is the territory's NGSS science summative test, administered online territory-wide by VIDE through Cambium Assessment, Inc. The Grade 8 (middle school) test samples the full grades 6-8 NGSS band. Items are organized as phenomenon-based clusters and stand-alone tasks that measure three-dimensional science learning, integrating Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs), Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs), and Crosscutting Concepts (CCCs). This practice bank is an English-language four-option MCQ study aid for concept review, quantitative calculations, and scientific reasoning; it is not an official-format simulation.

USVI NGSS Science Grade 8 Exam Content Outline
Physical Science
Middle school band: atomic and molecular structure, chemical reactions and conservation of mass, synthetic materials, Newton's laws and net force, kinetic and potential energy, thermal energy transfer, and wave and electromagnetic properties.
Life Science
Middle school band: cell structure and organelle function, photosynthesis and cellular respiration, ecosystem dynamics and matter cycling, reproduction, mutations and inheritance, natural selection, and evidence of common ancestry.
Earth and Space Science
Middle school band: Sun-Earth-Moon orbital relationships and the solar system, plate tectonics and mantle convection, the rock cycle and weathering, the water cycle, atmospheric and ocean circulation, natural hazards, and human impacts on natural resources.
Engineering Design (embedded)
Evaluating competing design solutions against criteria and constraints, testing prototype models, and optimizing trade-offs; engineering design appears inside science clusters rather than as its own reported discipline.
