About the OSAS Math Grade 8 Exam
The OSAS Grade 8 Mathematics assessment measures student proficiency against the 2021 Oregon Mathematics Standards. It is reported in three categories — Concepts and Procedures, Problem Solving and Modeling/Data Analysis, and Communicating Reasoning — through a Smarter Balanced computer-adaptive test and a Performance Task.
Assessment
Online Smarter Balanced assessment with two components: a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) of selected-response, technology-enhanced and equation-entry items, and a Performance Task (PT) of multi-step problem-solving items. Reporting categories are Concepts and Procedures (Claim 1: 10 of the 17 operational CAT items), Problem Solving and Modeling/Data Analysis (Claims 2 and 4 combined: 3 CAT items plus most of the 4-6 Performance Task items), and Communicating Reasoning (Claim 3: 4 CAT items plus 0-2 Performance Task items). Aligned to the 2021 Oregon Mathematics Standards.
