About the CCEA GCE Environmental Technology Exam
CCEA GCE Environmental Technology (2016) is the Northern Ireland applied GCE that develops technological responses to energy and environmental challenges. AS 1 (external, 1 h 30 min) covers fossil-fuel reliance, climate change, carbon trading, fuel security, targets, macro- and microgeneration, smart grids, CHP, heat pumps, wind, solar, biomass, energy storage and plastics. AS 2 is an internal technical report applying wind, solar and biomass to a realistic scenario with practical investigation. A2 1 (external, 2 hours) covers sustainability metrics, waste management, waste-to-energy, bioremediation, phytoremediation, hydrogen fuel cells, transport, building energy performance, wave and tidal, smart materials, CCS and sustainable communities. A2 2 is an internal report assessing a local building against the Code for Sustainable Homes. Full A Level combines AS (40%) and A2 (60%). Grades run A–E (AS) and A*–E (A Level).
