Frequently Asked Questions
Who needs to take the Texas massage therapy jurisprudence exam?
Applicants who pass the MBLEx as their national exam must also pass the Texas Jurisprudence Exam. Those who take the TDLR-administered Texas Massage Therapy Exam do not need a separate jurisprudence exam because law and rules content is included.
How is the Texas jurisprudence exam administered?
The exam is administered online. Applicants must complete it within 30 days of paying the registration fee. After 30 days, the registration expires and the fee is not refunded.
How much education is required for Texas massage therapy licensure?
Texas requires a minimum of 500 hours of education from a TDLR-approved massage therapy program. The exam must be passed within 2 years of the application.
What are the Texas massage therapy CE requirements?
12 hours every 2 years (6 hours in massage techniques, ethics, or laws/rules; 6 hours in related coursework). A human trafficking awareness course is also required but does not count toward the 12 hours.
What is the renewal fee for a Texas massage therapy license?
The renewal fee is $75 every 2 years. Late renewal within 90 days costs 1.5x the normal fee ($112.50), and late renewal between 90 days and 18 months costs 2x ($150).
