This page prepares applicants for the separate Texas massage therapist jurisprudence requirement used with the MBLEx pathway. TDLR also accepts the PSI State of Texas Massage Therapist Examination, which already includes Texas law and rules and therefore does not require the separate jurisprudence product. Applicants who pass the MBLEx as their national exam must also pass the Texas Jurisprudence Exam. Those who take the TDLR-administered Texas Massage Therapy Exam do not need a separate jurisprudence exam because law and rules content is included.
How is the Texas jurisprudence exam administered?
The exam is administered online. Applicants must complete it within 30 days of paying the registration fee. After 30 days, the registration expires and the fee is not refunded.
How much education is required for Texas massage therapy licensure?
Texas requires a minimum of 500 hours of education from a TDLR-approved massage therapy program. The exam must be passed within 2 years of the application.
What are the Texas massage therapy CE requirements?
16 TAC 117.30(a) requires 12 hours of continuing education per two-year license term with no required split between topic types; first aid and CPR may count for at most six hours per renewal period (117.31).
