About the ISO 21001 Foundation Exam
The PECB ISO 21001 Foundation exam tests fundamental knowledge of the educational organization management system (EOMS) defined by ISO 21001. ISO published the second edition, ISO 21001:2025, in July 2025, replacing ISO 21001:2018.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the format of the PECB ISO 21001 Foundation exam?
The official exam is 40 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 1 hour, and it is closed book — no standard, course materials or notes may be used. The pass mark is 70%. It can be taken online through the PECB Exams application with remote invigilation, or on paper at a PECB partner venue.
Which edition of ISO 21001 should I study?
Study ISO 21001:2025. ISO published the second edition in July 2025 and withdrew ISO 21001:2018 on 7 July 2025. The revision keeps the ten-clause harmonized structure but updates the assessment-related text, adds a climate change consideration in Clause 4.1, and reorders the sub-clauses of Clause 10.
How much does the PECB ISO 21001 Foundation exam cost?
PECB lists the Foundation exam fee at $500 and the Foundation certificate application fee at $200 for candidates applying directly. Where the training course is booked through a PECB partner, the course price normally includes the first exam attempt, one free retake and the certificate application.
Does the ISO 21001 Foundation credential expire?
No. PECB's CPD policy states that Foundation, Provisional and Transition credentials do not require maintenance, so no CPD submission or annual maintenance fee applies. Lead-level PECB certifications, by contrast, run on a three-year cycle with CPD and an annual maintenance fee.
How does this practice bank relate to the real exam?
Our bank is an English-language study aid, not a simulation of the official sitting. It holds 100 four-option multiple-choice questions so you can practise more widely than the 40-question exam covers, and every question carries an explanation of the correct answer plus feedback on each wrong option.
