The Niigata Prefectural High School Entrance Examination in Social Studies tests lower-secondary graduates on geography, history and civics under the MEXT junior-high Course of Study (平成29年中学校学習指導要領). The 令和8年度 (2026 cycle) selection structure includes 特色化選抜 and 一般選抜 (学力検査 with optional 学校独自検査) plus a second recruitment for vacancies (欠員補充のための2次募集) and a special selection for returnee students (海外帰国生徒等特別選抜). 特色化選抜 will be replaced by 学校設定枠 from 2027.
